Here's a little bit of Jason Wilde's blog. Click the coaches name to read it all.

The overtime rule in the playoffs becomes another really sub-topic in my view of the coin toss. It kind of lines up in the same conversation. It's a game-management decision, whether you take the ball or don't take the ball. To me, I think that's probably the most important variable involved in making that decision. But gameplan-wise, it's not going to change the way you call plays. What happens up to that point in the game, if you were in that situation, is going to factor on how you approach it, offense, defense and special teams.

Chris Roth (WBAY-TV sports director) then mentioned if the first team scores a touchdown it's game over.

I think each team gets a series, as I understand it. Is that not right? Well, I've got a week to check it out.

Chris Roth said not to take his word for it.

I hate to hurt your guys' feelings, but we really don't ever go on your guys' accounts. We appreciate the input, though. It keeps us on our toes.

Hopefully he checks up on it because he is wrong. Each team gets a series if the first team kicks a field goal. If they score a touchdown it's over.

Still makes no sense as to why it is over if the other team scores a TD. They had a possession and the other team didn't. Not fair.

I'm not sure why Mike McCarthy played it off as if he'd win the toss and defer because no one is going to do that except maybe a horrible offensive team like the Broncos. Packers have a high octane offense and you want them on the field first. Packers score, it puts a little more pressure on the defense.

Edit, thinking more about this after reading another article. A first drive field goal is a bummer way to end a game, especially a playoff game. You get a good return you only need a couple first downs, kick a field goal and you win. All because you won the coin toss? The other side of that is ... you should have played better during the 60 minutes prior to avoid such risk in over time.

I got a question regarding the overtime rule, assuming:

1st posession: Saints kick a FG, 3 points on the board
2nd posession: Lions kick a FG, 3 points on the board
3rd posession: Saints kick a FG, 3 points on the board

Is it game over or do Lions get another posession?

That scenario, game over, Saints win. The rule is just to make sure the other team gets at least one possession and doesn't lose on a first possession field goal.

If Saints kick off, Lions' returner muffs the kick, Saints recover and return it for a touchdown, it's game over, even though the Lions' offense never touched the ball.
