Kevin Seifert wrote this on the ESPN NFC North Blog:

Nelson has been targeted a relatively modest 79 times this season but has caught 59 of them, including 12 touchdowns, making him what ESPN Stats & Information considers the NFL's most efficient receiver. Entering the game, 73 players had been targeted more frequently than Nelson. But he now has more touchdown receptions than all players but New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski and Detroit Lions receiver Calvin Johnson. Rodgers' passer rating this season on throws to Nelson entering the game was 156 and it was a perfect 158.3 Sunday night.

Good job Jordy. Can we officially declare Jordy the best #2 WR in the NFL or would that be Welker? I'd take Jordy over Welker as Jordy seems to do the deeper routes better. Maybe it's just my memory, but it seems like Welker will catch the deep patterns only to be tackled by the Safety. Jordy seems to smoke the Safety. Is there any truth to that or is that my green & gold lenses showing?

If you accept the ESPN analysis, that would seem to be making a case that Jordy's our #1 receiver.

In any case, any way you want to stack them, Greg Jennings and Jordy Nelson are one helluva good #1-#2 receiving combo.

I thought Deion Branch was number one in New England? Unless a guy who's starting isn't the number one??

Wes Welker can't be #1 because he often plays in the slot? Is that the deal?

On the Patriot's official depth chart, Welker and Branch are listed as the starters, and Welker gets twice as many receptions and yards as branch. Under any sort of reasonable logic Welker is the #1 WR.

I'm with you on Wes Welker being number one, even though he's in the slot most of the time. I actually remember hearing earlier in the season that Deion Branch was number one now that I think of it. I was baffled by it then and now.

BTW, I never said Wes Welker wasn't a starter, nice try on instigating, quit it!
