I was busy and missed this. Sorry. If it is not too late-
2010 was an amazing year for the Green bay Packers. I have watched them for a lot of years. Back in the summer, like so many people, I had pretty I hopes for them. Maybe not to win the Super Bowl but to win the division and win a game or two in the playoffs.
As the year progressed and they struggled and key players were injured I just knew they would not have a successful season. The Bears seemed to be just out of reach in the standings. The Bears seemed to have all the breaks going their way. It was more than a little frustrating to watch. Living in Illinois I suppose you could say it was unbearable.
Injures kept piling up and Green Bay kept struggling along just above the level of mediocrity which is the worst place to be. The team doesn't make the playoffs and you don't get the valued draft picks next spring. When Aaron Rodgers went down with the concussion I knew Green Bay's hopes of making the playoffs was over.
Much to my astonishment after losing the games to Detroit and New England they rallied and beat both the New York Giants and the Chicago Bears to force their way into the playoffs.
My hope was rekindled. I thought they had a pretty good chance to win in Philadelphia and they did. Atlanta had played so well at home all year but it seemed like Green Bay with Rodgers hitting his stride would be able to win there. I did not expect it to be as easy as it was. Tramon Williams interception for a touch down right before the end of the first half was the difference maker int he game. Facing Chicago for the third time did not bother me. I wanted to see the Packers play them in the championship game because I felt Green Bay could have won both of the prior meetings.
Once Green Bay beat Chicago and made it to the Super Bowl I was content. They did more than what I had expected of them back in August and certainly more than I expected on December 1. Funny thing happened as the time for the Super Bowl approached. Just playing int he game was no longer enough. I had raised my expectations and I wanted the win as much as everyone else did. It was thrilling for to watch Green Bay take the early lead and have Pittsburgh keep coming back only to watch Green Bay get another turnover and turn it into another touch down.
It is a season full of memories that I will not forget.
