The United States Marine Corps is a year older today. I've always respected the Marines a tad more than the other services, and respect each greatly. When I was near 18 I was heavily recruited by the Marines and the Army.

I got the feeling that the Marines were more 'elite' than the other services and being the young punk who wanted to prove everyone wrong. I wanted to prove I could make it in the Marines. Unfortunately the several month long wooing process from the Marines halted when I was mistakenly charged with a heinous crime.

Thank you Marines!

Marine Corps Infantry- Marine Birthday song.

This is not poltically correct, and was/is only sung in "far-flung" places, and pretty much only in the "crotch" or "grunts" - Same thing, different slang, for the Infantry.

"Well,

The Marine Corps flag is a dirty - old -rag,

The Commandant is a faggot!

His wife is a whore, who fucks for the Corps,

No wonder they call us maggots!"

...Of course you know what's coming next--

Semper Fi!

Happy veterans day to my brothers and sisters that served.

My wife and I drove to Chicago to take our son to dinner for Vet's Day. We were talking about marine BDay. He said he text a couple of ex Marines (oops there are no ex Marines) A couple of buddies who use to be active duty Marines and told them happy birthday. One of them replied, "What?" My son said if he didn't know that his friend was working nearly 20 hrs a day he would tell every Marine around where he lives.

I worked "retail" during veteran's day.

I saw all the hats, talked to most, etc.

Thank you to the soldiers, sailors, airmen, coast-guardsmen and Marines that actually stood a friggin' post, held a friggin' line, and / or were actually scared for the situation they found themselves in, thanks to their signing on the dotted line, coupled with their actual MOS, coupled with being or having been an actual combatant along with being in the military. The rest are riding on their coat-tails, big-time, and you get plenty of props along the way, REMF, so kma, imo.

Call it my props to those that got scared by their service. Those that did know of which I speak, as do those that didn't. I choose to leave it to you Americans to not "differentiate", nor should you. This jarhead does do so, and I should, also.

I heard and so saw you lima charlie, five by five, however long you were there !

Please convey this small "war story" to David.

I was in the Koh Tang Island, Cambodia raid in 1975. About 40 of a slight bit over a hundred were killed, most of the rest were wounded. I got shot dead-square in the chest. (Cluster-fuck)

I was given my choice of duty stations to rehabilitate in. I chose the 1st Marine Brigade @ Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii.

I was an E-5 at the time (Sergeant). Could not afford to live off that economy, even with commuted rations, etc. Took a part-time job at a gas station in Kailua. Rode a bicycle between my BEQ and that job, about 7 miles.

Carried a big soda with me, both ways. It was my "retaliatory strike" for all the locals that would throw beers, sodas, food etc. at me while I was riding that bike to and from my part time job.
Happened EVERY time.

I had a "high and tight" haircut, as a Marine, and was therefore some sort of interloper on their pristine civilian island.

While you ALL celebrated veteran's day, I harken back STILL to those days when I was still very much mourning the loss of my best friend, re-habbing a major chest wound, unable to even wear my uniform off-base, and unable to HIDE my being in the Marines because of my hair-cut, all because of the (imo) civillian mother fucking gutless pukes.

(When I start calling names regarding civilians, maybe you got SOME hint of the etymology of my wrath)

I wonder if those fucks that threw shit at me celebrate Veteran's day now?

Sorry- some ask where all the "piss and venegar" comes from. This would be an example.

Some might say let it go. To you I say this-

My seabag from way back then is in my basement, right now. In that seabag is the uniform and deuce (782) gear I had on the day I got hit. So is my my high school friend's that died that day. His "stuff" was all over me.

His brain matter is dried and inter-mixed with all of it. It's old now, kind of looks like rabbit poop. I will never get over that, sorry. Fortunately, they stopped rolling like that as regards remains & stuff.

I went on in life and the Corps, but I hold grudges against those people and that time.

Were you to ask such a question from that populace on this day, this is what you would get-

Tell that to David.

I will.

Sorry to hear they gave you so much crap. I hate it when people are so incredibly stupid. I had the Bear's game on for a while. They honored a VN vet during the game. Looked like several of his grandkids were in the service now.

When Dave got out he was E5. His unit had an E6 slot open up and he was thinking of staying in but end the end had had enough.
