I always considered any LB who rushes the QB a blitzer. Apparently not. It is based on 5 or more players rushing the QB.

Your definition worked just fine before the 3-4 defense came along. In the 3-4, one or both of the OLBs rush the QB on most passing plays. The zone defense has also complicated things. Sometimes a D-lineman will drop back into coverage while an LB or DB rushes. So I think the "5 or more rushers" definition of a blitz is the most reasonable one at this point.

That article mentions that the Packers have blitzed more this season than they did in any of Capers' two previous seasons, which is interesting. They blitzed the most in the last two games before the bye, against the Rams and Vikings.

I've heard elsewhere that opposing teams are blitzing much less against the Packers than they usually do. The Saints blitzed them a lot in the opener and Rodgers torched them. Since then, opposing defensive coordinators have become gun-shy. I love it!

I also liked this quote from McCarthy, from that same article: "When you are a pressure team, you play with more tempo. That's why our offense and our defense, particularly these two systems, complement each other so well."
