uh oh

After the exciting 49ers win over the previously undefeated Lions, the coaches had a little scuffle. Jim Harbaugh was over exuberant in his handshake with Jim Schwartz at "mid field". Harbaugh shook with his right hand then (what appeared to be) shoved Schwartz out of the way with his left hand as he moved towards his exiting of the field.

Schwartz is known for being excitable during a victory and it appears he is able to dish it out, and not take it.

I understand the handshake is showing sportsmanship, but is it mandatory? What if the coaches hate each other?

I liked the hostility, but hope it's not something that happens every week.

Off topic comment, as someone else pointed out, why can't the coaches wear suits if they are provided by the league's apparel designer/producer?

Is it me or is Jim Scwartz just another uncoordiated white boy with small man's disease? The Lions are a .500 ball club that were gifted two wins by teams that had them dead to rights. I did enjoy the little cat fight though. That's some quality entertaiment right there. I only wish Chilly would have gotten into one of those.

We were having dinner the other night and Jim Schwartz told [Jim Harbaugh] basically there’s no way you’re going to be able to get it done [if the lockout lasts into the summer]. [Schwartz] told him there’s no way you’re going to be able to accomplish what you need to accomplish in two weeks if this thing lasts a while. Jim [Harbaugh] just kind of bit his tongue, which is what you’ve got to do in this situation. Because there’s nothing you can do about it.

Ravens HC, John Harbaugh  wrote:

I echo the thinking, it's too bad these fellas are not in the same division. Schwartz talking smack before Jim Harbaugh even had a chance to administer a training camp.

I thought it was a really dumb move by Harbaugh. That's not the way you shake hands with someone from the other team after a game. It looked like he was congratulating Schwartz. Very disrespectful. So I don't blame Schwartz for getting mad.

Jim Harbaugh took full blame, said he did indeed shake Jim Schwartz too hard. Next time he should just give him a gentle handshake to avoid any hurt vaginas.

Jim Schwartz also was animated while telling Jim Harbaugh to know the rules when Harbaugh threw a challenge flag on a score, even though they are automatically reviewed. There was a 15 yard penalty for it I believe.

If I said nothing as mentioned above and that happened? I'm competitive and a sore loser. I would have ran up to him, told him I didn't appreciate it and if he mouthed off, pop him one in the kisser. I wouldn't have ran up to him and bumped him without him seeing it coming.

Harbaugh has a history of being kind of a jerk. I can't stand the guy.
That's my 2 cents.

Harbaugh did admit he was wrong, and he was.

Schwartz reacted poorly and he was wrong for that.

But he didn't own up to his being a jerk.

I have respect for the way Harbaugh accepted responsibility.

But Schwartz talking about protocol and professionalism is hypocritical.

I'd say Harbaugh won that exchange. He showed he was the bigger man. Schwartz just showed he was a petty little jerk. Figuratively speaking.
I want to go out like my Grandpa did. Peacefully in his sleep.
Not screaming in terror like his passengers.
