We will see.. Ted Thompson and company have had some weird roster configurations to start the year at times.. I am sure this one will be no different.

So true.
The thing that worries me is the D-line is not too strong going into the season, and I believe McCarthy/TT believe the games are won and lost in the trenches. That sounds pretty stupid considering we've had a lot of shuffling on the inside of the o-line, but I still think McCarthy and Ted live by this philosophy.
Taking that into account, and the fact that Pickett will be seeing his first action against the Vikes, I think (or perhaps prefer?) the Packers play it safe and keep an extra DT on the roster, even if it is Muir or Malone.
If I remember correctly, a couple of years ago the Packers had a verbal agreement with a player that they'd resign him after they released him in the final cuts. That was done so they had time to trade FB Nick Luchey I think.
Perhaps that's the route the Packers can take here too? They have a wink-wink/nudge-nudge agreement with Lumpkin that he'll be back in a couple of weeks once the DT rotation becomes more solid....?
Considering Lumpkin said the Packers were the only team to show interest in signing him, he might do this as a show of his gratitude for the Packers making the only serious offer to sign him after the draft...
