Ryan Grant: Looked pretty good for the most part. Quick and decisive. Had one gaffe, however, when he appeared to have a lot of room to run on a draw play but cut the wrong way and got swallowed up by a D-lineman after only a two-yard gain.

Alex Green: Looked great on that 25-yard catch and run on a screen pass and also looked good punching it into the end zone two plays later. The rest of the game he got no blocking and did nothing, ending up with eight yards on six carries. I read that he was responsible for a sack after missing a block. If he can clean that up he should be the third down back.

Dmitri Nance: He really looked good, and this is the first time I've thought that. Before this game, I thought his chances of making the roster were nil, barring an injury to one of the other RBs. I still think he's a longshot, but he looked quick and had some nice runs.

Brandon Saine: Honestly, I still can't get a fix on this guy. I'll have to watch the game again, with fewer distractions this time. Maybe someone else has an opinion.

(James Starks did not play because of a minor injury.)

Looks to me like Green has a lot of upside. Grant is Grant and will get his 1200 yards if healthy. Personally I think Starks is better but Grant will play more unless starks gets hot. And MM may do that....go with the hot hand. Nice problem to have actually considering the problems at Rb for the last several seasons.

I heard Kuhn is a possibility for the third-down back spot. It'd give Green some time to learn.

Kuhn's a good player, but I don't think he fits the role of third down back very well. And if Brandon Jackson could do it as a rookie in 2007, so can Alex Green. He's perfectly suited for the job as long as he can learn how to block decently.

I'd prefer if we had a quicker 3rd down back. Kuhn's decent for a short yardage back, but not a 3rd down back. Hoping Green can play the latter role (assuming Green can block).

I think Green will be really good. I liked him from the first videos I saw after the draft. He has very good balance feet and quickness, his spin move is fun to watch. Not many men his size can do that. It was only one pass but he seemed to catch it effortlessly and play went very smoothly. He just needs some time and reps, another rookie that the lockout hurt with no OTAs. Rook's improvement this year should be noticeable nearly weekly if they are playing at all.

After watching the game a second time, I think the bad run by Grant on that draw play was probably not his fault. It looked like Scott Wells was not able to get a good block on Darnell Dockett, who had dropped back off the line of scrimmage. If Grant had cut left instead or right, he would've run into another defender, and Dockett still would've factored into the play because Wells was not able to engage him. It was a very good play by a very good defensive lineman.

Grant had a couple of very good runs in this game and seems to be playing as well as ever.

what we learned from week 2 ...
well first off this is a preseason game where MM is trying to sus-out whom is going to stay; whom is going to start and whom is going to get the boot.

grant will obviously stay - not sure if he will be the starter or not ... might just employ a 2 back solution with him and starks ...

I liked how green ran ... nice running - be interesting to see how he does in the next 2 games ...
ya sure nance did ok with a fumble recovery and that run to the outside but if you guys remember last year he pretty much sucked badly. And we have to get down to 53 - whom you going to drop then?
How many backs do we want?

I havnt been following as closely as last year - but is hall a goner? or is he still a option? ...
I hope we keep kuhn, quinn and then we have grant, starks and green? that would be 5 right there.

and heaven forbid we see what we have at the TE position ...

I don't see Nance staying either, unless they decide to keep four RBs, which seems unlikely. I agree that the most likely scenario for the backfield is Grant, Starks, Green, Kuhn, and Quinn Johnson. Some say Johnson could get cut in favor of an extra TE, but I don't think it's that easy to plug in a TE at FB.

Korey Hall plays for the Saints now.

I'm not sure you can evaluate the running attack in a game that was pass, pass, then pass some more.
