I am not talking about physical toughness in regards to Cutler.. I am talking exclusively about mental toughness. I think, based on what I have seen of it on the football field, to lack it on said football field.

He rattles easily.. he talks with confidence but he plays with self doubt on the field.

Survives when things are going his way, but struggles mightily when things are difficult.

On the football field.. he will always be his worst enemy mentally. You can see it in his body language.

I don't know Jay Cutler.

1. I don't like him because he's a Bear.

2. He's a quarterback. So I assume he's an asshole until shown otherwise.

3. Despite #1 and #2, I find myself identifying with him, for several reasons:
a. He's lousy at eye contact. So am I.
b. He gets judged negatively for this. So do I.
c. He's a diabetic. So am I.
d. He doesn't seem to have much time for doing things because "everyone who does what he does for a living does them". Neither do I.
e. He fucks up a lot. So do I.

Frankly, there aren't many non-Packers in the NFL, especially at the QB position, who I'd be interested in talking with and seeing how they really think. And, frankly, if they weren't Packers, there probably aren't many Packers I'd be interested in talking with either.

But I think Cutler might be interesting to spend some time chatting over good food and whisky sometime. He might just be another asshole quarterback/NFL player. But something tells me he's a thinking contrarian.

And so, ahem, am I.

So count me a provisional fan of Cutler the man.

Sue me.

Million dollar arm and a 10 cent head.

Seriously, he looks like he has Asperger syndrome. A milder form of Autism. If something is not what he expects it to be, he has trouble adjusting.

That would also fit with the lack of eye contact. (I have a problem with that if they stand within arms reach. Farsighted.) And the complete lack of social skills.

I got this from Wikipedia.

The lack of demonstrated empathy is possibly the most dysfunctional aspect of Asperger syndrome.[4] Individuals with AS experience difficulties in basic elements of social interaction, which may include a failure to develop friendships or to seek shared enjoyments or achievements with others (for example, showing others objects of interest), a lack of social or emotional reciprocity, and impaired nonverbal behaviors in areas such as eye contact, facial expression, posture, and gesture.[3]
I want to go out like my Grandpa did. Peacefully in his sleep.
Not screaming in terror like his passengers.

Cutler is no softy. You don't go soft playing behind Chicago's offensive line and playing QB for Vanderbilt in the SEC. He is, however, the most reckless passer in the league today.

I think Cutler is for a starting NFL QB just about average. If I had to rank starting QBs, I'd put him near the middle.

One thing I won't do is call him a softie. I watched him take 9 QB sacks in one half before getting knocked out of the game. People who don't really study football don't understand that it's the system that's bad, not the QB (in this specific case). da Bears need a solid OL and better route running WRs. They don't have either. Until then, their O will suck unless they change Offensive Coordinators.

Thanks again Jay for displaying yourself on the national stage.

Credit though.. at least you didn't pull up at the half. No knee issues this round.

Hey Jay.. Good Luck.

See you later this season.

I think the Packers should hire a few bodyguards to make sure he's safe between games. Maybe wrap him up tight in bubble wrap too.

Great guy, Jay Cutler. May he play for da Bears another 10 years. I'll continue rooting for him. Go Jay Cutler go!
