At this point I say, "fuck it". Pay the rest of the money and let's see what happens. We have sunk so much money in an untenable situation, but yet the thought lingers... "What if this fat fuck actually gets his health back?" I don't mind calling him names and deriding him-- He has pocketed all those millions for not doing shit. He still keeps getting a pass in the media (this would not happen on my eastern seaboard, I don't think) plus by the organization itself...

Fuck it, we paid for him, he's got a shot to play for a Super Bowl Champ, redeem himself, etc. My leash is obviously RE EXTENDED through this camp, the fucker better come through this time. 🙏

(I'm getting played, again, but damn, he has good excuses, or some such shit, and I'm from Wisconsin, which practically defines a friggin' rube.)

The veteran minimum  for a player with Harrell's experience is $685,000. That would be enough to sign two rookies at the minimum and does not represent a huge savings in either case.

That would depend on when he was put on IR. Most years, I believe, the magical date is June 1 (or is it July 1?), the point at which salaries become guaranteed. I'm not sure which date that will be this year. This applies specifically to veterans, and it depends on how many vested years the player has. For example, A.J. Hawk was cut and later resigned because his entire salary would have been guaranteed had he been on the roster on Day 1 of the NFL year.

Under the new CBA, teams will be required to pick up the 3rd year option on players (which raises the question, how is it an option of it is mandatory -- does the player have the right to refuse it?), which is guaranteed even in case of injury.

I am looking for the relevant dates but have yet to find anything specifically referencing them.

NSD.. I believe I read someplace that it is August 2nd or 4th if memory serves me correctly.

Thanks. The sources I am reading are frustratingly vague.

Slightly off topic, I found this fascinating little tidbit  that I haven't seen mentioned anywhere else:

As earlier discussed by us at TJB, the cash salary guarantees were wildly overblown by the media. On a leaguewide basis cash salary must total 99% of the cap the next two years. That does not mean per team. In other words, if the Jets spend 140 million in cash and the Bills spend 100 million the league is in compliance. Starting in 2013, each team will have to spend 89% of the salary cap in cash, over a 4 year period. That means that if a team is filled with dead money they don’t have to overspend in cash that year to reach the minimum. They have 4 years to spend it, so if the salary cap was $120 million from 2013-2017 each team has to spend around $427 million to be in compliance with the CBA.

Yeah, I mentioned that in a thread that was about the salary cap or CBA stuff. I was seeing 95, 99 and 89 ... again, this is FOOTBALL, it's supposed to be freaking easy to understand and follow!!!
