I am amazed at the number of shows built around the idea of the paranormal.. and that their evidence is somewhat widely accepted.

So my question is.. do you believe in anything paranormal? Or have you experiences that you can share that might sway an opinion.

Personally.. I have trouble wrapping my mind around it being possible.

I have no problem with it being a possibility. Just because scientists haven't figured out how to measure it yet doesn't mean it isn't there. "Existing scientific knowledge about the universe" is based on horribly small samples. What we don't know drawfs -- by multiple orders of magnitude -- what we don't know.

That said, however, I find the television portrayal of the paranormal utterly appalling 99% of the time. It's "science fiction" without any science. The high tech video version of ouija boards and holding seances in Victorian sitting parlours.

Yuck.

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

I think paranormal activity is entirely possible, but who knows what the causes are for it.

I've never personally had an experience. I used to live in an old townhouse built on the foundation of a mansion where an industrial tycoon lived in the 1800's. My ex's friend worked for one of those paranormal investigation crews, and asked if they could check it out. They found "cold spots" in our bedroom closet that they said were suspicious. That night we were lying in bed and we heard a SCRATCHING coming from the closet... it sounded like something was tearing into the wood or drywall. Needless to say it freaked us the hell out. The next day we found out our next door neighbor's rabbit had escaped and was chewing on the wood trim of the wall connected to our bedroom.

Paranormal activity is a pretty broad term.

Ghosts? Probably not but I'm smart enough to know that I don't know everything. Besides, "ghosts" don't need to be undead spirits.

Aliens? More likely in my opinion, the idea that aliens could and would travel to our planet seems unlikely to be but the existence of aliens, even highly intelligent ones is highly probable given the size of the universe.

If it helps you understand what kind of a person I am any better, I grew up with Sci-Fi and have watched the entire runs of The X Files, Star Treks DS9 and Voyager (as well as most of TNG), Babylon 5, Stargate SG-1 (working on Atlantis at the moment), and bits of Andromeda, Doctor Who, Earth: Final Conflict, Sliders, and various other shows. In other words, I'm a sci-fi fan.

I have no question that there are other life forms other than us. I fail to fathom any notion that we are the only planet in the entire universe with living species.

Spirits, Ghosts ... I'm not sure. I'd be more surprised if they didn't exist, than if they did.

Speaking of other life forms...one of only three good bits* in the Men In Black series was the notion of a pocket galaxy the size of a cat's collar pendant.

*The other bits: 2. The pug. 1. Linda Fiorentino's legs**.

**Said legs (and the rest of LF***) were also one of the redeeming values of that other cinema masterpiece, "Gotcha."

Bigfoot?

The countless other "creatures" or experiences reported around the world.

I have never experienced anything of the sorts... well other than a large cat that kept me in a tree stand for several hours past dark.. lol. But I know that was a cat as I seen him come in at dusk and then started in with the weirdest sounds I have personally heard. Like he had some massive hairball lodged.. think I set a land speed record for an 120 acre parcel after I decided to head out after not hearing him for some time.

I think there are things here that we don't understand. I don't think "dead" people speak to the living (like John Edwards). I mean, if they could, why wouldn't they talk directly to their loved ones?
I DO believe that demons can act as if they are dead loved ones and fool people.
I also believe in angels.
I have seen things that defy explanation, including UFO's and other things. I have felt a presence many times where there was no one visable.
