I don't feel less excitement for the draft. Certainly selecting 32 adds a lot of uncertainty and is not as exciting as selecting 4th. But I wouldn't mind picking 32nd (due to winning the SB not because of trades with the SB winner) every year.
What I like about the draft is doing the research afterward trying to learn a little bit about the newest Packers.
Losing the pre draft FA period doesn't bother me since Uncle Teddy doesn't, for the most part, participate.

Wade, I am over 50 and I will stay up to the end of the first round. Followed by some reviewing info on the player chosen and talking to the fans on the board here. Then get up at 6. My secretary is off this week so things are more than a little hectic but I find this deverion a needed release.

What's the pick time limit in the first round? 15 minutes? Because if it's that much the round could theoretically last for 15x32=480 minutes, which is 8 hours...

The draft starts at 6pm for myself in the mountain time zone. That means I won't see the Packers pick until around 11:00 to 11:30pm if teams use their full ten minutes. And even later for those in Central and Eastern, etc ... how is this good?

I'd rather see ...
Rounds 1 and 2, start @noon on Saturday, they'd conclude round 2 around 9pm.
Rounds 3 through 7, start @8am on Sunday, they'd conclude round 7 around 9pm.

The setup now I think just focuses more on the first dozen or so picks for round 1 and 2 and then you get to see the ever important 4 -7 on the common day off for people.

I think instead of figuring out a way to fit this into my schedule, I'm going to skip this draft all together.

It's not worth staying up so fricking late for.

I definitely miss the Saturday/Sunday draft. That has killed some of my excitement too.

For some reason I don't remember it taking this long last year, although I definitely paid less attention after the Packers picked. I know some teams don't take their full allotted time. I'll be interested to see how long it lasts. Can someone remind me what time the 1st round was over last year?

I found an article/blog entry saying that the Saints drafted Patrick Robinson at #32, and it was posted at 11:35pm EST.
