I was pretty huge on Mortal Kombat when it first came out. I bought it right away, played the hell out of it and beat all of my friends an friend's friends ... and now they've went back to their roots with 2D fighting and are essentially re-writing the story line. It sounds like they have a story mode one could play this time too.

I want to get the game, but don't want to spend $60 for nostalgic reasons alone.

I have both PS3 and XBOX 360, but not sure which version I should get it for ... I've asked a few friends which system they will buy it for and it seems they have little to no interested until they can buy it used.
