Can someone explain why the networks are going to give the NFL hundreds of millions of $ this year if there is a lockout?

I keep hearing that the NFL will get the tv money even if there is a lock out. That makes absolutely no sense to me.

Ok, someone told me that the way the contract is written, its a loan. The networks pay what is owed, if no games are played, they get paid back, w/interest.

Yes.. the NFL has been preparing for this day for a long time.. the networks had little choice in the matter if they wanted to carry the product as there were other Networks sitting across the table waiting for CBS/Fox to blink to carry the majority of the schedule.. NBC/ESPN were in no position to argue the point if they wanted there slice of the pie.

The NFL Network was a very strategic instrument in this all.. applying pressure if any of the 4 decided they didn't want to met the NFL contract demands.. this clause included.

I blame the impending NFL lockout on the Green Bay Packers........ It has been foretold and prophesied.

With the Super Bowl win, the Packers are the NF L's 666...... the Number of the Beast if you will.

Green Bay Packers Super Bowl XLV .......... 6th seed.... Packers won by 6..... won on the 6th of February...

Green Bay - GM Thompson's 6th season
Green Bay - The signature play for the Packers was an interception returned for the touchdown, a "pick 6"
Green Bay - Aaron Rodgers 6th season as a Packer

and the list goes on and on....

You're right, the pending lock is because of the Green Bay Packers, because the other 31 teams seen how we dominated the playoffs with missing 6 starters, 3 of them key contributors. :)

It's called a forfeit, you should know bout that. lol

Hey, if the lockout comes through, and the NFL as we know it ends in a blaze of MLB/NHL implosion imitation, there will be one truth certain:

It ended the way it should, with green and gold hands on the Lombardi and the Vikings 0-4.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Mucky Tundra (2-Apr) : Will there be a tracker on the ball or something?
Zero2Cool (1-Apr) : uh oh
Martha Careful (1-Apr) : Too bad camera's can't spot the ball as well.
Mucky Tundra (1-Apr) : So will the chain gang be gone completely or will they still be around as a backup or whatever?
Zero2Cool (1-Apr) : The method for measuring first downs in the NFL will switch from chain gangs to camera-based technology in 2025, the league announced.
Martha Careful (1-Apr) : A big step in the right direction. Just put in the college system is very very good.
Zero2Cool (1-Apr) : NFL has passed a rule that allows both teams to possess the ball in OT during the regular season
