The Green Bay Packers have signed G Adrian Battles, T Chris Campbell, S Michael Greco, LB Cardia Jackson, S Anthony Levine, WR Antonio Robinson, DT Jay Ross, WR Chastin West and LB/DE Curtis Young. The transactions were announced Thursday by Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations Ted Thompson.

Levine finished the season on practice squad/injured, while the other eight players concluded the season on the practice squad.

Anybody with a keener eye, ear or memory care to let me know if any of this is good news or just meaningless random filler?

I agree with Twinkiegorilla.

They were probably signed to Reserve/Future contracts to prevent any other team from snagging them. As long as they remained on the practice squad, they could be sniped at any time by another team without warning.

Why are people whining about this? They do it every season.

I direct your attention to this article   about the Steelers, which came out before the Super Bowl. It's not exactly the same situation, but it's fairly similar.

I don't see anybody whining. They're just wondering if it is significant. It isn't. They're just practice squad guys.

The offseason roster goes to 80 players.

With the Packers you have the final 53 less those whose contracts have expired like Cullen Jenkins. Some we don't know if they are free agents until the new CBA.

There are 16 players on IR.

These 8 practice squad guys.

The draft picks can't be added until after the CBA. They don't count against the 80 player limit until they are signed.

Who needs free agency if the CBA isn't signed until September? Not the Packers!! There is no need or room for free agents.

A long work stoppage actually gives the Packers an advantage.
