That's my bet after the following announcement. Depends on whether they favor Polamalu's 7 INTs over CM3's 13.5 sacks...

Defensive MVP announcement moved up to Monday

The change was to facilitate production plans at NFL Network, which is televising the awards for the first time, according to the AP.

The move suggests the possibility that the winner is from one of the two teams in the Super Bowl, because the awards will be presented at the Super Bowl site in Dallas, and players from both teams are released from all media commitments after Thursday. The Packers Clay Matthews and Steelers Troy Polamalu are possible candidates for the award.

The APs are the leagues official awards and based on voting by a panel of 50 media members. Voting closed on Jan. 7, the day before the playoffs began.

Yeah Clay'll probably get it. I think you'd have to give it to Hali if you gave it to a pass rusher, but I'm not complaining.

Should be interesting. I'm not big on awards because I think it inflates both a players ego and their asking price. For example, I'm glad that Sitton didn't get voted into the Pro Bowl because it will keep him hungry next year and it makes it a lot more likely we can sign him to a team friendly deal in the offseason.

But Clay seems like a genuine guy. I love his work ethic and determination He'd probably play for free because he seems to really love football. Can't think of a more deserving player.

I understand the inflated ego thing but it won't be with CM3. Trust me. He's got football in his blood. He'd rather put a QB on his ass than get an award.
