Jersey Al wrote this blog piece a day or two ago. He did his homework on this one.

His intention in this blog post is to convince the reader that James Starks did well with what he had.

My intention of "forwarding" it to here is to remind everyone that will listen that our offensive line is still a major weakness of our team, and have stated repeatedly when criticizing Brandon Jackson that my caveat regarding that criticism always includes the concept that Jackson isn't good enough behind "our" line, as configured.

Some say (in retrospect, after we lose) "Well, what happened to the criticism when we were winning, why bring that shit up now?"

My answer (in advance, win or lose)

I'm bringing it up NOW, while we are winning, and our offensive line is still no friggin' good, at least to the standards I would like to see.

Jersey Al wrote:

Im guessing Bob hadnt re-watched the game again when he wrote this. Because if he had, he would have seen an offensive line whose run blocking could best be described as sieve-like.

Anyway, it's a very well done piece, imo--even if you think O'l Foster just wants to rant about the o-line again. :thumbleft:

Wait, our offensive line is crap? YOU DON'T SAY!?!?!

You're not telling anyone anything we don't already know, except that McGinn is under the impression our OL preformed better in the playoff game against Atlanta, than the regular season meeting. I think that's a crock, both games our RB was hit behind the line, both games our QB was running around.

The difference is Starks could get back to line some times and/or fall forward where Brandon Jackson has that as a weakness. Oh and Rodgers lit their shit up.

Which game was it that Colledge went out and (Lang?) went in and we got ??!!worse??!!

This keeps me up at night.

Why bring it up? Because in either 2 wins or 1 loss friggin' soccer-boy 🙂 is going to want an OLB, diva loving Dhaze 🙂 is gonna want a GD WR, Porky is gonna want his annual BPA, there will be 20 mocks on here ignoring our offensive line in the early rounds, Pack93z is gonna tell us why his beer drinking buddy Tausch is good to go for next year, or worse, that Lang can play LT 🙂

...And Foster will be criticized for still wanting to hold Ted Thompson responsible for failing to address the offensive line soon enough, well enough, and our success this year will be thrown up as in defense of that position.

Ted made amends with his draft of Bulaga. Bulaga is a prime example of what I mean by saying Ted was "late". He is in the natural progression to take over at LT, but as we all know, he is shaky at RT (we all HOPE that it is because he is playing on the "wrong" side, for him)

Cliffy to the pro-bowl--Judas H Priest the pro bowl is a joke, Colledge sucks, Cliffy sucks, our middle gets pushed backwards, and on, and on, and on...

It could have all been Lang's wrist. Really. A line is so many moving parts in synch that can look SO bad configured one way, yet turns around (very positively) if configured another...

...And now we can't get rid of the coach, because we did too well this year, and there will be no hue and cry heard at 1265 to do so.

Small example--What if Bulaga is a great LG? This comes to my mind as real possibility, and sady, we will probably never know.

What I'm trying to say is that we need more linemen. :)

...or possibly an absolutely premier running back (And I don't think there is an AD/AP (Adrian Peterson, Zero 🙂 ) in this draft.

The good news is that since our o-line has been pretty shitty since the day Aaron tooks the reigns, he has developed a Big Ben - like ability to negate a shitty line... Different skill set, but very similar in the end results. That makes him even better than the credit he is already getting, imo

I firmly believe the focus will continue next season on fixing the offensive line.. starting with competition for Wells.. who IMO is a solid player.. but doesn't get a ton of push of this the center spot in running plays.. and drags over to the left with Colledge.

Sitton and Bulaga IMO are the only two long term answers on the line..

I'd like to add to this, just a tad because I do NOT like Bulaga at RT.

LT - Bulaga
RG - Sittion

I'll go with this as long term answers. Clifton - old, Wells - needs to lose his job before becoming above average, Colledge - lacks motivation and consistency.

I don't know OL too well, but that's my opinion.

Cliffy doesn't suck. He's been solid this year. He did get burned by Abraham last game though.

Cliffy's close to done though. He's not long term.

I'm with Foster. I do want a RB and a WR drafted but OL comes FIRST.

On another thread, someone was saying that our OL was decent (I don't think it was one of us, I think it was a quoted sports writer) and I disagreed, saying that was all Aaron dodging bullets. I don't want Aaron to have to do that all day long.

Our pass protection needs improvement and our run blocking is a joke. Thank goodness for James Starks who is filling in admirably for Ryan Grant. Now do you all believe me how good Grant really is? 1200+ yards 2 years in a row against THAT OL? He should get a medal.

Preaching to the choir. I've said several times Grant is better than we give him credit for. Yes, he pisses me off with his running into team mates and running with his head down, but 1,200 back to back in our pass happy offense with our *cough* OL *cough* I think is pretty good.

It was I.. and I stand by the comment that in pass protection they did a solid job. The Falcons did a nice job with some of their stunts and blitz packages.. I think the slot blitz for examples was missed by Arod and doesn't fall on the line.

Sometimes a defense is going to do a decent job in scheme to create matchup issues.. I remember seeing another blitz the Colledge failed to pick it up.. but overall I think pass protect was solid last weekend.

In the run game however.. they couldn't get past the front line of the Falcons and struggled with the initial burst in the run game.
