MILWAUKEE -- Never mind the weather forecast for Soldier Field next Sunday. The NFL's most historic rivalry just became a lot hotter.

Aaron Rodgers had another immaculate playoff game, accounting for four TDs and close to 400 total yards. But was it the greatest playoff outing
of the 2000s? More ...

Even before they boarded the team plane back to Green Bay after Saturday night's rout of the Atlanta Falcons, Packers players were pondering the possibility they might face their NFC North rivals, the Chicago Bears, in the NFC Championship Game.

"For us to be playing the Bears next week, that would be something," Packers wide receiver Greg Jennings said. "But we'll see."

That became a reality Sunday, when Chicago beat Seattle to set up one of the juiciest conference championship matchups in recent memory.

Injured tight end Jermichael Finley won't be able to play -- but even he's excited.

"(It's) going down," Finley posted on his Twitter account Sunday afternoon.

The Bears won the NFC North this season and hold home-field advantage over Green Bay. But with the way the Packers are playing right now, they might be the scariest No. 6 seed in history.

"Oh, we have what it takes," Green Bay cornerback Charles Woodson said after Saturday night's game. "Make no mistake about that. It's just about going out and executing."

After holding on to beat the Eagles in Philadelphia last week, the Packers steamrolled the Falcons 48-21 on Saturday night. Then the Bears dismissed the Seahawks with a convincing win of their own, 35-24 on Sunday.

With Green Bay needing three road wins to make it to the Super Bowl, Packers coach Mike McCarthy has grown fond of saying his team will take on any team, any place, any time. As it turns out, the team and the place they'll face in their final step to get there is a very familiar one.

"We're a championship-caliber football team, we talked about that before the Philadelphia game," McCarthy said. "We have 16 quarters on our mind, we've completed eight of them and we have an opportunity to play in four more next week. We feel very good about who we are, the way we played, our brand of football in all three areas, and that's what we're sticking to."

The Packers are rolling behind Aaron Rodgers on offense and dominating on defense.

Rodgers played well in beating the Eagles last week, earning his first playoff win as a starter. Then he delivered one of the best performances of his brief-but-impressive career Saturday.

"Yeah, this probably was my best performance, I think (given) the stage that we were on, the importance of this game," Rodgers said. "So yeah, it was a good night."

Rodgers had just five incomplete passes, throwing for 366 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions.

"He was on fire," McCarthy said. "He likes playing in domes, and you can see why."

Rodgers already had his teammates' confidence, but what they saw Saturday was on another level.

"He played absolutely phenomenal," Jennings said. "The performance he put on tonight, it was a treat to watch him. It was a treat to play with him."

The same was true of the defense, which held Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan to 186 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions, and running back Michael Turner to 39 yards and a touchdown. Cornerback Tramon Williams made the play of the game, returning an interception 70 yards for a touchdown and giving the Packers a 28-14 lead at halftime.

"We're playing our best football," defensive lineman Ryan Pickett said. "Guys are hungry out there. We're a good team with a chance of being great. We're playing good ball right now at the right time."

Call me crazy, but I have a hard time considering a No. 2 seed beating -- at home, after a bye week -- a No. 4 seed with a losing record worse than that of four teams who didn't make the playoffs to be quite on the same level as a No. 6 seed beating -- on the road, with no rest -- a No. 1 seed with a much better record . . . not to mention a nearly perfect home record over the past couple of years.

Slightly off topic, the Packers themselves have quietly amassed a rather impressive home record. They're 13-3 in their last 16 home games. If I'm not mistaken, only the Patriots and Falcons have been better over that span, with the Colts also coming in at 13-3.

Martha Careful (5-May) : Yes, in the military S2’s work on IPB, PERCEC, PHYSEC and IO
dfosterf (4-May) : FYI civilian companies swipe the S2 designation from the military. S2 is the intelligence branch up to brigade level. G2 is division level.
dfosterf (4-May) : Google it. Make sure to tack NFL on it or you will get the military meaning
Zero2Cool (4-May) : S2?
beast (4-May) : Seems like the S2 has a love/hate relationship with professional scouts.
beast (4-May) : In theory, the S2 test how quickly a QBs brain can solve game like issues and how quickly they can do it.
dfosterf (4-May) : Are you gentlemen and at least one lady familiar with the S2 cognition
Zero2Cool (4-May) : Maybe there isn't an issue.
beast (4-May) : NFL really needs to fix their position labeling issue, but I don't think they care
Zero2Cool (1-May) : Packers did not activate the fifth-year options for linebacker Quay Walker, with the goal of signing him to a contract extension.
Zero2Cool (1-May) : Matthew Golden spoke with Randall Cobb before draft. Looked like chance encounter.

Zero2Cool (30-Apr) : Packers are exercising the fifth-year option on DT Devonte Wyatt, locking in a guaranteed $12.9M for the 2026 season.

Mucky Tundra (27-Apr) : beast, according the Falcons statement Jax came across it on an ipad. If I had to guess, probably an open spread sheet or something
Zero2Cool (27-Apr) : Simmons put up an emoji with cheese.
beast (27-Apr) : Not sure anyone is interested in Isaiah Simmons... Collin Oliver might of taken his potential slot
beast (27-Apr) : I'm going with Jax Ulbrich is not telling the whole truth... he accidentally came across it? Why would a defensive coordinator have a QB #?

Zero2Cool (27-Apr) : If we add Isaiah Simmons, book your Super Bowl tickets
Mucky Tundra (27-Apr) : Colts 1st round TE Tyler Warren also got prank called, was that Jax Ulbrich as well?
Zero2Cool (27-Apr) : Jax Ulbrich, Jeff Ulbrich’s son, released an apology for his role in the Shedeur Sanders prank call.
Martha Careful (27-Apr) : apparently he did not participate in practice or play on the east west shrine game nor the NFL combine. The kid was a mediocre spoiled brat
