The only time I ever got to fly in a Chinook, I didn't land in it. I enjoyed the ride, though -- those things are
fast.
I remember being envious of the British medics. They were so much better equipped than we were, with their Israeli field dressings (which you can see in this video), their foldable litters, and their nice ambulances. Our ambulances were better able to handle the rigors of the field, since they were constructed on the HMMWV ("Hummer") platform, but they were miserable not only for medics to work in, but also for patients to ride in. British army ambulances were probably less able to withstand ballistic and blast forces, but they were certainly more attuned to patient comfort.
Kudos to this pilot. His presence of mind and courage under fire was admirable.
