While DD says his thigh or his offseason surgery hasn't really been an issue for him, I would be very interested to see what he can do with a real offseason with real workouts (and no surgery). I think 2 years is probably realistic (rather than one). He has taken fantastic care of himself.

Even if it is as a 3rd WR, he has a ton to offer the team in terms of work ethic and leadership, even as his role decreases. Maybe he has lost a step, maybe not, but he is still a big part of this team.

This is what I think. I'd love to keep him as our #3 WR as his leadership is important as is his work ethic. Wish our other WRs would play more like him and fight for every ball, every yard.

Let him play out his contract, but I'm pretty comfortable the GJ, JJ, and JN. What I'd really like to see is for us to go steal Sidney Rice from the Queens.

As for Driver, there's nothing bad to say; but I don't think we should let a guy take up a roster spot if his production is declining, and there's someone better on the roster to keep. Right now we don't have someone like that, so this is basically a non issue.

A question though, would Driver had scored that 80 yarder like Nelson did against the Giants. I would have to say no, he would have been caught.

When JJ or JN can prove they can consistenly go over the middle and make the tough catch, taking the big hit and getting the tough yardage, that is when DD can be sent to the old folks home.

Until then DD is just as valuable now more than ever to The Packers.

Here's the thing: When Driver moved into the starting lineup in 2002, he was unproven. He had been the #3 or #4 guy for a couple years and had made some good plays, but it was hard to tell how he would fare as a starter. You don't really know what a guy's going to do until you put him on the field full time.

You're always rolling the dice when you replace a really good player, but it happens all the time. The Packers have even managed to replace the ultimate "unreplacable" player, Brett Favre, with a guy who is just as good. When a player gets old and banged up and his production drops off, you replace him.

I think what's hurt most about Driver falling off this year with the problems converting on third and short and third and medium. Finley will most likely be the go-to guy in those situations next year. But hopefully Driver can stick around and continue to be part of the equation.

Good question, I'm betting if AR hit DD in stride as he did Jordy he would have scored. JMHO

Jordy, I believe is the fastest wr on the team, no argument there, but that plays was perfectly executed.

Maybe it's because I am somewhat oldschool, but I can never understand why a team wants to change a really good situation.

I realize guys get old and have to retire, but DD's lower numbers are due to his injury, he looks to be healthy now and from his performance last game, looks to be back to almost 100%.

The Packers have 4 top notch Wr's, without the dominant TE, they will need all 4. As we all have learned this year, every team has injuries, IMHO the excess of wr's is a good problem.

Never underestimate the value of a veteran such as DD as a team heads toward the play-offs.

The play-offs are a completely different animal.

Not even close. Gregorious. Nelson rarely gets separation and that 80-yard TD, I thought fo shizzle he'd be caught. That really surprised me.

Gregorious takes a lot of slants to the house. Nelson only took that one.

You make an excellent point here. Driver is by far the most fearless WR we got. Like NSD has said before, he's also the only WR we can trust to fight in traffic for extra yards. JJ & JN get the ball stripped from them when they do that.

Even if Driver falls to #3 or #4 on the depth chart, he's the guy I trust the most for that crucial 4 yard completion. He's also the guy I trust the most to fight for crucial extra yards. He also probably leads the NFL in spectacular one-handed catches, but there's no stat for that.
