I don't think it has anything to do with a pussified or tough society. I just found it a little ridiculous that Coughlin's focus at the end of the game was running out onto the field and berating his punter. The game is over. You have plenty of time to do that shit in the coming week. It showed a lack of control more than anything else. There was no purpose to it other than venting like a little whiny bitch.

Of course, this is the first I've discussed it, so it's not like it bothered me a great deal.

Exactly.

In the end, what matters is the W/L column, not being politically correct. Of course, as long as we're not cheating.

Ah, the famous Lombardi argument. Well nevermind then.

I'd be surprised if Lombardi berated a player as the game ended, actually. Coughlin's little lecture had nothing to do with coaching.

I think there is a certain chain of command in the whole topic, and probably why I get a little bent here and there with certain players holding others accountable.

IMO, the coach and his staff should be the ones handing out the Coughlin type reactions and discipline, not a fellow teammate trying to do it.

But I have little problem having a coach walk out onto the field and chew someones ass when he fails, especially at the NFL level. In this case, the punter had specific instructions and he failed to deliver upon them and little other than his execution was to blame.

You have to get through to them and hold them accountable, doing so on a big stage as a game should get through. If it doesn't, well then either they can perform it as written or they can't be counted on in the heat of the game.

Either way, they probably don't fit upon your team for long term success, in this case, this isn't the first mistake Dodge has made this season.

Personally, this is what I would like to see Campen or MM do to say a inconsistent yet talented player that loses focus at times.. Colledge comes to mind almost instantly.

And it has worked.. in 07' when Colledge was struggling, he got called out and benched.. he returned to play some of his best ball of his career. Last week Campen comes out with a strong statement that everyone on the line failed.. they returned with one of the most complete performances of the season.

Why do it.. because it works in this setting. Not all setting, but sports, especially on this level, you do it because it gets results.

as for coughlin losing it against his punter at the end, yeah, that happens. doesn't bother me. I'd rather have someone who loses it periodically than a robot who's always under control.

on the other hand, i would want the after-reflection coughlin to go off more on the coverage players than the punters. watch that return...the eagle's coverage unit was worse than the packers's. and as we all know, that is saying something.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

I don't mind if a coach, OR a player, gets in the face of another player. IF and i do mean IF, the coach/player holds themselves just as acountable when THEY screw up.
I think players feel the same way. If you are gonna yell at me, ok, just as long as you take the blame when it's YOU that screws up.
Thats how i feel at least. When i had a boss that yelled at me, but also took the blame when they messed up, i respected them and didn't get mad.
