Six years after they first met during Vogue magazine's annual Costume Institute gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, David Lauren and Lauren Bush were engaged Friday night in the museum.
Our source tells us David proposed to Lauren inside the museum around eight in the evening, and the happy couple was then seen arm-in-arm getting into a hansom carriage. Lauren was spotted sporting a round brilliant diamond ring.
And if Lauren takes David's name she could have the most iconic name in the city, Lauren Lauren.
The source told us, "David told Lauren that he was taking her to see an exhibit, then got down on one knee. He had a beautiful ring ready. It was a total surprise to her, and they are both so happy."

David's fashion king father Ralph was recently awarded a Key to the City by Mayor Bloomberg to honor the worldwide fashion empire he created here in New York. Lauren is the niece of President George W. Bush and granddaughter of President George H.W. Bush.
David, 39, is the executive vice president in charge of worldwide branding, communications and marketing at Polo Ralph Lauren, the world's largest designer brand with more than $10 billion in annual sales. He's credited with launching the fashion powerhouse's digital operations a decade ago at the dawn of online retailing.
Beautiful Lauren, 26, has helped feed more than 60 million impoverished children through the sale of her Feed Projects line of burlap bags. The former model also recently launched the Lauren Pierce clothing line.
The wedding, which will take place at a date yet to be set in 2011, could be as highly anticipated as Prince William and Kate Middleton in Britain.
When contacted for comment, a Polo Ralph Lauren spokesperson confirmed the engagement, but declined further comment.
