You don't need to go down the field to be special. It's all about knowing the situation and doing what is needed to win. Ryan does that on a weekly basis. He was excellent on third down in this game and completed all but one pass in the second half. Ryan let the game come to him today because that is what was needed to win.

Against Baltimore, he had to do a whole lot more.

The mark of a great player is somebody who can adapt to any situation. Matt Ryan has never not done that. I have always been impressed with watching him.

Baltimore? Oh, my bad, I thought we were talking about today's game, in which he did nothing special. Rodgers drive to tie the game, that was more 'clutch' than Ryan's four or five passes to to get a first down or two for his kicker to win the game.

He was 24 of 28 for 197 yards, a TD, and no turnovers. Not spectacular, but very, very efficient. He seems very cool under pressure as well. I was impressed.

He sure did play a very good game today. I could be wrong, but his WR did very well giving him big windows to throw in and he did a good job spiraling it in there.

It does help when you're handing the ball off over 49% of the time. ;)

By contrast, Rodgers handed off 19% of the time today.

Yep, doesn't hurt to have your RB get over 100 yards, but let's not talk about that at all, but stress its about knowing the situation. :P

Matt Ryan is a very good QB with a very good running game. Teams have to prepare for both.

I wonder how many other QB's could benefit from that.

Agreed. Rodgers showed us something today.

Also, I've thought for a long time now that when we go into 2-minute offense, we are unstoppable. Just about every time, it seems, we always do what needs to be done. I don't have all of the statistics and whatnot, but I'm talking about before half time to get a field goal or even at the end of a game like today's.

I just wish they could play with that intensity all game long. They do play very good, don't get me wrong, but they play even better in 2 minute offense.

People often forget that Ryan's rookie year, the Falcons ran for 2443 yards. It certainly makes it easier to make the playoffs when you're only passing 32% of the time your rookie year. By contrast, Rodgers passed 44% of the time his first year as a starter. I'm actually surprised the number is that low.

I mentioned Baltimore because it was an example of Matt Ryan being entirely different than what he was today. Why? The situation called for it. As I said before, that is the mark of a great one.

I didn't know I needed to spell it out like that. I'll remember next time. :thumbleft:

I agree that Rodgers' drive was more clutch today, but let's not take away from Matt Ryan because Aaron didn't get his signature clutch come from behind road win. Ryan played to the situation, especially in the last drive. If Capers wants to bring pressure and leave the sideline open, then Ryan should take that, instead of forcing it like a previous Green Bay QB often did. Or even Peyton Manning against New England last week.

Aaron Rodgers made clutch plays to get us in position to win the game. He made the plays. Matt Ryan played extremely efficient and consistent football. However, he did not have to make the plays Rodgers did. i.e. His short passes were great against our D but not spectacular, clutch plays that Rodgers made (4th and 1, 4th and goal, 3rd down runs). Ryan is a good QB but I don't think that he could win a game like A_Rodge can.

This opinion is completely unbiased btw.

But Ryan has won in those ways. Ryan did so against Baltimore. He threw for 300-plus yards and three touchdowns. The Ravens shut down Turner. Ryan had to win that game.

Yeah, if the Packers can't stop the run, you run the football. Running the football is very easy when you can't be stopped. So you do that.

Ryan can win in almost every realistic scenario. It is very similar to Tom Brady.

Best Brady stat is his win and loss record in 350-plus yard and three touchdown games. He has six or seven and the Patriots are unbeaten. Why? The game planned called for that, but Brady has also proven he can win when throwing for 200 yards and a TD. He adapts to the situation.

I believe Ryan does so as well.

Don't get me wrong, I think Rodgers is there too. I don't mean to take anything away from him. He has been great and was again today. Don't take my praise of Ryan as criticism of Rodgers. Seems like a few of you are doing that.

It was interesting to see Capers suggest he might play more coverage this week instead of bringing pressure.

That should tell you the respect he has for Ryan - the Falcons don't have much besides White.

Of course, when the Packers could not stop Turner, they shot themselves in the foot big time.

Ryan is a very, very good QB although it may not have shown this game all that much. I think his scenario provides an example of how to make a QB successful by playing him his rookie season.
