The helmets were brown to simulate the old leather helmets.

The pure brown helmet I thought could have been done better. I don't think it'd have hurt too much to add some decal's to it give it a mild leather style.

Maybe some black strips to simulate the leather pieces being sewn together. Something else to make it look better.

They wore 'em today and I thought they were awesome. Looked like Notre Dame jerseys to be honest though, wonder who copied who....hmmm..

from wiki- go back to page 2 of this thread for the link.

Lambeau, who had attended the University of Notre Dame, borrowed the team's colors of navy blue and gold from the Irish, much as George Halas borrowed team colors from his alma mater Illinois for the Chicago Bears. And like the Irish in the 1930s and 1940s, the Packers sometimes used green and gold before returning to the traditional blue and gold.

huh...so to all those "why the heck are they wearing blue today" naysayers, it looks like the team's true colors are blue and gold...we just stole green from the city's name.

I'm starting a petition, make the 1929 jersey's the Packer's official team jerseys...who else is with me?!? šŸ™‚

Love the throwbacks. Oh, they were ugly - don't get me wrong - but I just love the whole "paying homage to the past" vibe (although I'm pretty sure retail sales was the real motivation).

I wouldn't want to see them every week, but once in a while is cool.

The throwback jerseys did get some national attention, in Peter King's Monday Morning Quarterback column on the Sports Illustrated web site:

"Where'd you get those uniforms, Packers? Costco? And the helmets that looked like round FTD fall-bouquet vases? Without a question, those are the worst throwbacks I've seen, and there have been a lot of bad ones."

Personally, I disagree. They are the second worst throwbacks, after the brown and yellow (poop and pee) Denver Bronco uniforms with the striped socks:

Ehehehe. If nothing else those throwbacks made me realize just how close to my heart our Green & Gold colors are.

I agree with Twinkiegorilla.

dfosterf (25-Jul) : Probably a homer access credential intimidation kinda thing
dfosterf (25-Jul) : Meathead "journalists" skip this, concentrating on operational revenue when convenient. They switch when net revenue is more favorable.
dfosterf (25-Jul) : Resulting in an actual drop of net revenue of 12.5%. She is from Minnesota. Just sayin'

wpr (23-Jul) : These guys make hundreds of thousands of dollars a year. Pay for their own childcare.
dfosterf (23-Jul) : 2nd issue. Number 1 issue was no gameday childcare. 1 of 3 teams not providing it
Zero2Cool (23-Jul) : Suppose if locker room is main issue, we sitting pretty
wpr (23-Jul) : I thought so Mucky. In those useless player polls GB always rates high overall. Locker is a part of it.
