I think that some people feel like they can be different people via txt or phone then in real life.

That's exactly what is so wrong with text-based forms of communication. They create a false sense of intimacy that lets people feel safe expressing things -- good or bad -- that they normally wouldn't. However, the artificial intimacy that is fostered creates an immense cognitive dissonance and incongruence when people must confront each other face-to-face, often resulting in awkwardness or worse.

Texting is turning this generation into a bunch of social-avoidant pussies.

I'll have you know I was a social-avoidant pussy before texting ever existed.

You speak everyday in front of groups of people. I hardly think of you as a pussy. I'm talking about the avoidance of confrontation at all costs.

But still... one man texting an apology to another? What is he, 12? Couldn't he have just gotten someone to pass Fisher a note in study hall?

There is good stuff in this entire thread, especially in light of the original subject matter being somewhat boring to me personally. The conversation here is a "classic" example of how folks here at PH can take the mundane and make it most definitely worth reading.

I'm too lazy to plus one everyone right now, so in a close race, I'm going with musccy for making me laugh. +1 :thumbleft:

I wish I could have dated in 7th grade. I wasn't allowed until I was a sophomore.

I'm part of the irresponsible, young generation that's big into social networking... And I man up and appologize in real life.

I've done some dumb crap. Not a whole lot, but some. I've actually texted quite some dumb stuff, but I made my appology in real life. Not in another text afterwards.

How about looking at this like a positive? Maybe it shows character. If someone's not man enough (or woman enough) to come over and say sorry to your face, maybe that's more an indication of his/her character and not so much of something you can just blame on this generation and social networking sites.

I've found the positives to far outweigh the negatives. Opening up and starting something is easier. You might call that taking the easy way, but why not use that extra tool?

Or taking it even further... A forum is a social network in itsself. I don't know how all of you feel about me, but I do know that I feel... "close" in a certain way to a lot of people here. And I'm close to a 100% sure that I wouldn't have met any single one of you, had it not been for social networking.

Mucky Tundra (19h) : According to reports, Mel Kiper is furious that Sanders wasn't selected as the new Pope
Zero2Cool (21h) : Time taken to get picked:
Zero2Cool (21h) : New Pope: 2 days | Shedeur Sanders: 3 days
Zero2Cool (22h) : Collin Whitchurch @cowhitchurch · 1h Chicago got a pope before it got a QB to throw for 4,000 yards in a season.

dfosterf (4-May) : FYI civilian companies swipe the S2 designation from the military. S2 is the intelligence branch up to brigade level. G2 is division level.
dfosterf (4-May) : Google it. Make sure to tack NFL on it or you will get the military meaning
Zero2Cool (4-May) : S2?
beast (4-May) : Seems like the S2 has a love/hate relationship with professional scouts.
beast (4-May) : In theory, the S2 test how quickly a QBs brain can solve game like issues and how quickly they can do it.
dfosterf (4-May) : Are you gentlemen and at least one lady familiar with the S2 cognition
Zero2Cool (4-May) : Maybe there isn't an issue.
beast (4-May) : NFL really needs to fix their position labeling issue, but I don't think they care
Zero2Cool (1-May) : Packers did not activate the fifth-year options for linebacker Quay Walker, with the goal of signing him to a contract extension.
Zero2Cool (1-May) : Matthew Golden spoke with Randall Cobb before draft. Looked like chance encounter.

Mucky Tundra (27-Apr) : Cowboys 1st round pick Tyler Booker will indeed be bringing his pet turtle to Dallas with him
Mucky Tundra (27-Apr) : that contained all prospects info and contact
Mucky Tundra (27-Apr) : beast, according the Falcons statement Jax came across it on an ipad. If I had to guess, probably an open spread sheet or something
