Prolix doesn't really have the connotation of "boring" (though prolixity certainly can be boring). Essentially it means excessive verbosity or wordiness. So "drawn out" is a reasonable rendering.

I put on 20 LBS as soon as I hit 49. But the metabolism excuse is bull shit.
