Former Packers head coach and general manager Mike Sherman, who is in his third season as head coach at Texas A&M, has found some success this season.
On Saturday the host Aggies defeated No. 11 Oklahoma, 33-19, as Texas A&M won its third consecutive game. They are 6-3 overall and 3-2 in the Big 12. Their next three opponents are at Baylor, home against Nebraska and at Texas. [img_r]http://media.jsonline.com/images/104439564_Mike%20Sherman.jpg[/img_r]
Sherman, who had a 57-39 record (.594) as coach of the Packers from 2000-'05, came into this season with a two-year 10-15 record at Texas A&M.
This season the Aggies are averaging 34.1 points a game, third in the conference behind Oklahoma State (46.3) and Nebraska (37.1).
But the big change for A&M this season has come on defense under new defensive coordinator Tim DeRuyter, who was at Air Force. The Aggies rank third in the league in scoring defense (21.2) and are first in rushing defense, allowing just 92.3 yards a game.
DeRuyter has said he was inspired to build the Aggies' defense in the manner of the "Wrecking Crew" defenses the school fielded in the 80s and 90s, which featured outstanding linebacking.
Sherman's offensive coordinator when he was in Green Bay, Tom Rossley, is with him in College Station, Texas. Rossley is A&M's senior assistant and quarterbacks coach.
