I expect absolutely nothing out of Starks this season.. I can be surprised is something develops.

I expect a little something (like maybe a screen or something) but not much...

Also has the guy returned kicks at all? ... Or is it he's just a body with speed so throw him out there... why not throw out Shields then? he's faster?

Of course Starks has good hands catching in college but Jennings even had trouble catching punts when asked too to it in preseason that he got pulled from it one year.

Starks in college carried the ball too loose for my taste and he carried it one hand all the time. I'd be afraid to use him against the Bears as they ALWAYS make a player like that fumble... I don't care if your talking about James Jones or Ahman Green... if they're a Packers that doesn't carry the ball right against the Bears... the Bears will make that player fumble.

Honestly Starks reminds me of a mix between RB Tony Fisher and WR Jordy Nelson and Starks is VERY raw and seriously needed to be coached up from his college tapes.

I see the Packers working him up to 5 to 10 snaps a game maybe... but that's about it... nothing huge right away... watch him get a huge screen play against the Vikings after they plan for it all bye week...

Yeah Nance has had what, 5 games to show something? What's he done other than cause an INT against the Queens by not fanning out wide enough (or playing defense) on that screen?

"lords_of_thelema" wrote:

Yeah, that was on Nance.

Allen was playing on skates most of that game. Clifton put him out pretty wide.

Our offensive linemen, especially on the left side, are one of the worst screen units I've ever seen. Wells is good at center, but he can't position himself on the screen. Takes ages for him to get there, as well. Colledge has the athletic ability to get out fast, but seems to whiff half the time.

Rodgers has to throw that ball over the d-lineman. It's something you do on about 30% of the screen plays.

Nance is the last guy I'd blame there.

And I'm not going to rehash my entire story on Starks again, I'll just keep it short. He's been injured for ages and had a decent, but not great, career at a lesser college program. No indications at all that he'll be a good player at this level, let alone a great one who can handle the load.

Yep, so might as well just cut him. Nance has a bigger upside anyhow.

Buh-Bye Jimmy!

Yeah, well, he doesn't have it either.

I couldn't care less about which one of the two we keep.

I reckon that Starks has the better hands and speed, maybe a little more natural ability, but it's hard to put that to use when you're always injured.

It's about a toss-up to me.

The fact that Starks was drafted by our front office gives me more confidence in him than Nance. I trust Ted Thompson quite a bit on talent evaluation, so if the dude can stay healthy, I have hopes for him. That seems to big if, but if he's healthy, then I would love for him to be worked in very, very slowly into our game plan to see if he can reach his potential.

To reiterate, before the injury Kiper had Starks ranked as the 2nd best RB in the country behind only Spiller. And he doesn't have a long history of injuries.

Meanwhile:

If RB Dmitri Nance is healthy and still not used on KRs this week, then it's time to seriously question why he's on the roster.

So, it's Monday. What happened with James Starks?

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel said a decision on whether to activate James Starks off the PUP list will be made on Wednesday.

Our View: Starks will likely land on Injured Reserve. With Brandon Jackson playing better and John Kuhn handling backup duties, there's no need for the Packers to bring back Starks until next season.

The better question is who is better to put on IR than Starks?

Who would you cut to make room for Starks?

When you ask these questions the anser is a little more clear.
