Why was Kev bitching at you for pointing out Rock's a smart fellow? He is a smart fellow. I wish I was that smart at his age. Would have made where I'm at today so much easier.

He interpreted my commentary as excluding others as "smart" or some-such...

It could be argued that he was defending you and I... and others, lol

Hard to get angry about that...

Kev got that part right when he was bitching at me for pointing out Rock as a very smart fella.

No sir that is not what I was saying. I was disagreeing with you constantly licking his testicles AS IF he's the only smart person on the site.

I didn't intend on or mean any disrespect towards Rockmolder or take anything away from him. I like him and think he has great stuff.

What I don't like is someone being put on a pedestal as if they are superior to others. I believe you know me well enough to know this is something that I aim for and also try to lead by example with.

Well, I wasn't there so won't comment but must say that this board is full of smart people. I can't believe how many smart and/or interesting people are on this board. Best board I've ever been on by far.

Foster - I replied to this thread a bunch of times and just realized I never answered your question.

I am not young. I'm somewhere in the middle. Not old, but not young. But I'll still answer.

Where am I in life? Exactly where I want to be. If I can stay employed, when Junior graduates, I'm working one more year and then partially retiring. Mrs. Z and I have done real well. But as Wade implied, we had the right timing. Had it been my parents' time, we wouldn't have had those opportunities. It's a great time to be alive economically.

What's the plan? There is one but it's pretty personal and I'll tell it to you sometime in the chat or something.

Zombie and Foster,

I can't tell you how much I appreciate what you say. Were it not for this board, I .... well, I don't know what I would do.

But remember that you have seen pretty much the good side. The Wade as he's been striving to release both his inner priest and his inner dickhead, the Wade who's been striving to stop listening to the values and advice of third-raters, to stop worrying far too much about what "they" say and start putting my non-mainstream beliefs and ideas out there.

They say you learn more from failure than from success, and I tend to agree. I'm convinced that without some rather spectacular personal and professional failures, I would be just another pretentious asshole full of himself at a third-rate school, and, most days anyway, I'm glad I've had the tempering those failures have given.

Without that tempering, I would not have ever seen my shortcomings, and without that tempering I never would have had the courage to go forth as much as I have the last five years in putting my unPC and unmainstream ideas out there.

But when you've spent most of your life being a wuss wanting to please "them," you also relapse with some frequency. When you've let yourself wire your house their way, you're always discovering pieces of the old wiring. One bad habit is tough to break. I've got as least a dozen.

Its a tough process.

And, unfortunately, those failures didn't just come with tempering, they come with negative consequences for future possibilities. When you've made choices for a couple/three decades that have excavated a big financial and mental and physical and professional hole, you aren't going to dig out in a year or two.

Take that blog zombie refers to. I'm proud of that blog. I think it has some of my best thinking and writing. But I really struggle to keep it up to date, because of the demands of the day job and the mom and because of the consequences for mental endurance of having gotten myself so physically out of shape.

And I've discovered that in some cases, not only did I develop bad habits, I've failed to develop some basic social and political skills.

For the life of me, I can't figure out why my employer gave me tenure. My student evaluations are at or below average; and even though I think such things grossly overrated as a measure of teaching competence, they are the major component in promotion-type decisions here.

And its been increasingly obvious that, with one or perhaps 2-3 exceptions, my colleagues have very little respect for my ideas.

Which is one of the (many) reason this place is so special for me. People here respect my thinking. I'm supposed to be in a profession where people value alternate opinions and the examined life, and its all so much bullshit: there is no place more conservative in its (lack of) intellectual openness than higher education. (Well, maybe the media or the halls of congress.)

But PackersHome defines openness and mutual respect for me. I've spend a couple decades with people who talk the talk. You guys walk the road everyday.

Foster said I was kind. But the real kindness is what people here seem to do as a matter of course -- the kindness of listening, the kindness trying to convince (rather than "make") people change their mind, the kindness of actually being open to people who disagree with you. The kindness of paying attention, truly paying attention, to what others say. If I come off as kind, I'm convinced a big part of the reason is that I spend time here with a bunch of kind people who have been giving me an example.

You've shown me that "smart" and "kind" don't have to be mutually exclusive values.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

wow - great thread.

at the age of 41, i'm pretty darn happy with my life. i don't have to work a 'real' job because i own a farm (thank u mom n dad), i have two great boys who make my life complete, & the love of a man who can drive me crazy at times but at the end of the day, he's a good guy.

i'm formulating a plan to be a better 'domestic engineer', to lose some weight, & be a better mommy & wife. i feel i'm falling short lately in all those areas. it's time to pull my head outta my ass & get movin on this stuff.

dfosterf (4-May) : FYI civilian companies swipe the S2 designation from the military. S2 is the intelligence branch up to brigade level. G2 is division level.
dfosterf (4-May) : Google it. Make sure to tack NFL on it or you will get the military meaning
Zero2Cool (4-May) : S2?
beast (4-May) : Seems like the S2 has a love/hate relationship with professional scouts.
beast (4-May) : In theory, the S2 test how quickly a QBs brain can solve game like issues and how quickly they can do it.
dfosterf (4-May) : Are you gentlemen and at least one lady familiar with the S2 cognition
Zero2Cool (4-May) : Maybe there isn't an issue.
beast (4-May) : NFL really needs to fix their position labeling issue, but I don't think they care
Zero2Cool (1-May) : Packers did not activate the fifth-year options for linebacker Quay Walker, with the goal of signing him to a contract extension.

beast (27-Apr) : Yeah, but also some of the wording suggestions Jax only pranked called the QB, not the others... and if he had an open spreadsheet & 3 calls
beast (27-Apr) : Thank goodness he's not leaving the Turtle in the Red Tide
Mucky Tundra (27-Apr) : Cowboys 1st round pick Tyler Booker will indeed be bringing his pet turtle to Dallas with him
Mucky Tundra (27-Apr) : that contained all prospects info and contact
Mucky Tundra (27-Apr) : beast, according the Falcons statement Jax came across it on an ipad. If I had to guess, probably an open spread sheet or something
Zero2Cool (27-Apr) : Simmons put up an emoji with cheese.
beast (27-Apr) : Not sure anyone is interested in Isaiah Simmons... Collin Oliver might of taken his potential slot
beast (27-Apr) : I'm going with Jax Ulbrich is not telling the whole truth... he accidentally came across it? Why would a defensive coordinator have a QB #?
Zero2Cool (27-Apr) : He's not that great, but final piece of the script.\
Zero2Cool (27-Apr) : If we add Isaiah Simmons, book your Super Bowl tickets
Mucky Tundra (27-Apr) : Colts 1st round TE Tyler Warren also got prank called, was that Jax Ulbrich as well?
Zero2Cool (27-Apr) : Jax Ulbrich, Jeff Ulbrich’s son, released an apology for his role in the Shedeur Sanders prank call.
Martha Careful (27-Apr) : apparently he did not participate in practice or play on the east west shrine game nor the NFL combine. The kid was a mediocre spoiled brat
Mucky Tundra (27-Apr) : Yeah that one that was a super wounded duck that Sanders supporters are highlighting to prove a point
Zero2Cool (27-Apr) : Shough is the guy who missed guys at combine isn't he?
beast (27-Apr) : It's not official until I'm dead! I have a chance still! (Not really)
