my inlaws are ok - they actually live NEXT DOOR to us!! the hubby actually built a house for them - NEXT DOOR!!! did i mention they live NEXT DOOR????? but all in all, they know their place with us. hubby didn't have the best life growing up - dad was a drunk who for fun liked to beat his 3 sons - badly. we're talkin knock them unconscious badly. but his dad quit drinking, got old, & is always good to his grandkids. anytime there's a problem with them, dan (hubby) goes right over & tells them exactly what he thinks. it works in a completely f'd up way.

She is going to win 110% of the arguments. Even when she is wrong you will be the one who must apologize.

Bullfuckingshit. This is horrible advice to give young men. Horrible. Teach men to take charge of their households, not cower in fear of their wives' wrath and petty caprices.

With all due respect, of course. I just hate hearing things like this from husbands. It doesn't have to be that way and shouldn't. There are probably some men who have the equanimity to act like this around their wives and still maintain their respect and attraction, but the vast majority of men aren't -- and will only doom themselves to the ridicule and disrespect of their wives by attempting to follow your advice.

That's it Wayne.......the question is: Do you want to be right, or happy? LOL!

My mother in law.....i wish i could have known her better, but my father in law was a grade A- asshole. He didn't let her hardly even speak. He abused her and my wife, a MEAN drunk. My MIL died in 1986. Probably the best thing that could have happened for her. I tried to get along with my FIN, as best as i could.
He somewhat mellowed in his last years (he died in 1994) and wasn't quite as bad.
I never understood how a man could treat his wife and child like he treated them.

by the way nonstop, I have never lived in fear or cowered to my wife. I just don't give a rip about the petty little things that don't amount to a hill of beans.

My point was even when you win the argument, big f-n deal. Now her feelings are hurt. It takes a really big man to prove he is the boss. ::roll: I tired of playing that game long ago. We have been married 28 years so I must be doing something right.

Lose argument, still have a chance at sex.
Win the argument, enjoy the couch.

Funny thing about guys. We can be totally PO'd and still want sex. Every single planet and constellation has to be lined up before women are in the mood. Then most likely they have cramps or some thing else going on.

Amazing the things a single guy can learn here on PackersHome. :)

Does it? Spiderman's uncle said it best, "with great power comes great responsibility."

I am the authoritarian head of the house and my word is final. It's pretty fucking hard work as I'm responsible for everything.

Some husbands/fathers can abuse that power. Sure. I have, and regretted it not for the hurt feelings but because I have a conscience.

Do the right thing. Always. Even if it makes you unpopular.

One other thing of advice I give to couples is there's no such thing as equality. Equality is bullshit. Do what you're good at. Play to your strengths, cover up your weaknesses.

My wife is not responsible with money. I take her paycheck and my paycheck both and from both, I give her a weekly allowance. Her money is for her - it goes into her stocks and her savings. We're old school. I pay for 100% of the bills and her money is extra. If I didn't control her money, she'd buy stupid shit and fill up the house with it. If you think that's sexist, tough. It is what it is.

Speaking of sexist, I have a friend who is the opposite. She is responsible with money and her hubby's an idiot with money. He convinced her to invest HER money and it went from slightly over $1 million to $200,000. Now she can't retire. (Before anyone says "boo hoo, that's still a lot of money," $200k is a lot for Texas, but not a lot for San Francisco).

She should have been the money Nazi and should have taken his paycheck and controlled both their finances. In a couple situation, do what you're good at. The better chef should cook. The better cleaner should clean. The better driver should drive. The better accountant should manage the money. And the better leader should lead. Like I said, equality is bullshit. It doesn't work. Never has. Never will.

One more thing, women respect men who stand up for themselves. I've walked out on jobs where I wasn't treated well. Actually, twice in the past five years. Both times, I had nothing in the pipeline and it was scary, especially the last time as it was in the heart of the recession. Ironically, both times led to better opportunities.

It's easy to mock guys who get what they want. From my point of view, I roll my eyes to guys who don't stand up for themselves.

dfosterf (25-Jun) : of the folks that run this team. I do not recall Mark Murphy being subject to our vote.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy yay or nay is on the pre-approved ballot that we always approve because we are uninformed and lazy, along with all the rest
