It's really too bad the Gophers paid for that stadium, and STILL couldn't acquire quality players to play in it. You know your program is dead when you are pulling for OSU to win the championship after Week 7. The Gophers' struggle to beat even one Big Ten team, makes Wisconsin's victory over the #1 look like a cake walk, by comparison. UM is looking like the new Indiana; sitting on the bottom every year!

Ah those Gopher colored glasses must be a fine set.. Gopher basketball isn't in the same dire class as their football program. But keep that dream alive.

You are joking, right?

The Barn was empty when Monsoon was coaching his last half year. Gopher basketball was very well in the same dire class as the football program is in now. Who the hell have you been watching?!

"Formo" wrote:

Sure you had to clean up the mess that Haskins left.. What was his name.. Monsoon was a place holder for a couple of years.. but you had success in the era as well.. final four appearance, NIT Champs.. etc.

"pack93z" wrote:

Haskins was the guy that had the Final Four appearance (which was wiped by the NCAA, FYI). Monson was a placeholder, yes.. but for more than just a few years. Try 8 (7 1/2, really). The best Gopher team under Monson placed tied for 4th in the conference. Went 1 and out multiple times in the NIT and almost as much didn't even get INVITED to the NIT. (Sounds like Brew, 2 years didn't/won't get a bowl game, and failed the 2 weak ass bowls his teams did go to). Had only one team go to the NCAA tourney, and was barely a blip. The most 'successful' Monson year was getting 4th place in the NIT.

Trust me, there was a lot of hope under Monson (and a lot of heralded recruits), but there was never success.

Just like with Brew.

My point is simply this.. you have more to build upon in basketball than your long tenure as the bottom feeders of Big Ten football.. trust me the Badgers were once there.. it took a ton to get our program on track.. yearly respectability.

One man was able to rebound your basketball program.. I don't think there is a man alive that can save your football program likewise. :)

"pack93z" wrote:

Long tenure as bottom feeders? C'mon man, look at the standings. With Mason the Gophers were a middle of the road team at worst (which was more often than not). I'd say the Gophers have been bottom feeders for 4 years (including this year).. And even then, they tied for 6th in the conference a year after the 1-11 season. That's mid-level. But I'll give you during the tenure of Brew, the Gophs have been bottom feeders.

But not with Mase.

You are just pissed that your team can't nut up when needed.

I think it's cute you are getting frustrated at all the purple. Bottom line, my team won, yours lost.

Deal.

"Formo" wrote:

Who says I'm pissed. Your team gets fortuitous officiating, and your idiot fans accept the flags like that's the way it should be. Flip it around and you all cry like bitches. Viking fans are still whining about NO instead of pointing fingers back to themselves for all the turnovers, which is why they lost.

I understand the League helping the Vikings so they can get a new stadium, but it is three years of this BS now, nut up and pay some taxes so you can build the fuckin thing already.

Twins are the only team in Minnesota that's worth any attention. That's professionally and collegiality speaking. Everyone knows this, why continue the torture as if it's not factual?

What a game!!! The Badgers hung tough, and pulled out a win!
Can't knock them, they knocked off 2 great teams 2 weeks in a row now.
I HOPE we get another Rose Bowl appearance.

There's a contingent of us Gopher fans that are pining for Mike Leach to come up to Minnesota and coach for us. The guy is an offensive genius, and after scouring many other Big Ten team blogs and their thoughts on him at the reigns of the Minnesota program, many of them are against it.. Because they fear him. The guy is a pirate fanatic, and a few Gopher fans at the Penn State game revealed a 'sign' for the admin of the 'U'...
