As for the defense struggling, it was the defense who carried the team against Miami.

And we can go back a week further and they got slaughtered.. hence why the "at times"... and if one of those times is in the playoffs.. Moss looks more valuable than that 3rd.

I think looking at next season more than the current at times is a little self defeating.. there has to be a balance not just always the future.

It is a heck of a debate.. but with a young defense.. I place more value on his production this season over the 3rd going forward..

BTW.. they can always tag Moss and get value for him past this season.. that is if there is a next season with a CBA. 😉

All of this handwringing from many of the same people who predicted that Cutler would make the Bears a force to be reckoned with and that Favre's return this year would make the Vikings an offensive juggernaut. People are way too afraid of Favre. Put him on the ground a few times and it wouldn't matter if he had Andre Johnson, Randy Moss, and Terrell Owens catching passes -- he won't be all that effective.

"Nonstopdrivel" wrote:

I agree. Moss doesn't help that o-line, and his routes aren't quick ones. The equation doesn't change: Get to Favre, hit him and put him on the ground. If a team does that, they'll more than likely win.

Not to say this isn't a smart move by the Vikes - it very much is, because they put all their eggs in Favre's basket. You might as well go whole hog.

I don't disagree. I just think that if the addition of Moss makes the difference between wins and losses, more often than not it will be the fault of the opposing DCs gameplanning to give Favre way too much credit. If they focus on the fundamentals of solid passrush and keep pressure on Favre, the addition of Moss won't make a big difference overall. If other teams get tentative because of Moss, that's their fault and they deserve to lose.

Gee. First thing I see when I log on this morning is Randy Moss going to the Vikings.

My first reaction: Fuck.

My second reaction: Fuck.

Favre just went from grumbling about Berrian et al to having a friend who just happens to be one of the best WRs in the game right now to throw to.

One of the two biggest weaknesses on the Vikings (the other being parts of their OL) just became a strength again.

My third reaction: Goddamn Belichek. He's always screwing something for the rest of the league.

Fuck.

This might be where we have the crux of difference in this deal.

I think Moss is still a player that is special enough to force you to plan for his talents... he is tall, fast and has excellent hands.. IMO, he has the ability to make plays like Johnson did this past week.. where they are special plays that the normal player fails to make.

The question with Moss has always been has he been plugged in and wants to play.. that is the only wildcard.. but he and Brett have been wanting to play with each other for a couple of years.. I have a feeling Moss will be plugged in.

Sources: Moss was becoming a distraction in New England
Posted by Mike Florio on October 6, 2010 11:03 AM ET
Multiple sources tell us in the wake of the deal that sent receiver Randy Moss from the Patriots to the Vikings for a third-round pick that the trade became a necessity because Moss was becoming an in-house distraction for the Patriots.

Per one source, Moss "was pissing [coach] Bill [Belichick] off at every turn." The source opined that Belichick wouldn't have given Moss to Minnesota for a third-round pick unless Belichick knew that keeping him could hurt the team.

As another source explained it, some players were becoming more and more frustrated with Moss, who reportedly asked for a trade after his Week One postgame tirade regarding his perceived lack of appreciation, based on the actual lack of a contract extension.

That said, other players in the locker room liked Moss and had no problem with him. Still, if enough of them had enough of Moss and if Belichick was indeed growing weary of dealing with the downside of a guy Belichick didn't plan to bring back in 2011, the move makes plenty of sense.

Long term this may come back to bite the Vikings. But not this year.

Year one after a move Randy is in "chip on shoulder, I"ll show the bastards" mode. And Randy in that mode is scary.

I'll never forget how, as a rookie, he destroyed the Packers on Monday night on national TV. And that was when he only had talent going for him. Now he has experience to go along with that.

I could see hesitating to sign him to a long term deal. But for one year. This is only going to make the VIkings better.

Damn it.

Whether or not they are desperate is irrelavent.

So, if the Vikings beat us, and win the division again, what are you going to say?

"Yeah, they may have won the division again, but they are desperate, and we're not. So there!" #facepalm

"IronMan" wrote:

IF they beat us it would be due to poor execution on our part. A few folks on this thread said the way to cover Randy Moss, Harvin, Rice, Shiancoe, is to put Favre on the ground. Just like the Giants did to the Patriots in '07. Let's not forget that our current DBs are a decent upgrade over the Giants' DBs of '07.

So how do we beat them? With CM3, Raji, Jenkins, and Zombo putting constant pressure on Favre. Their OL isn't that good. Actually, it's mediocre. If Favre can release faster than we can get him, we're in trouble. If we can get him before he can release, we'll win.

Let's not forget that we're 3-1 and they're 1-2. They were in dire straits. We weren't. They needed a WR desperately. An upgrade at RB for us was nice to have, but that's it.

I think da Bears are done. Moss on the Vikings now makes this division race interesting again. I've always wanted us to earn a title, not have it fall in our laps because the other guys suck.

I was about to write exactly what Zombieslayer just said. Of course teams can't ignore the presence of Randy Moss, but if Favre is on the ground before he can get the ball out, Randy Moss becomes irrelevant. The important factor isn't what weapons Favre has on the field but rather is Favre in a position to get the ball to those weapons.

beast (30-Dec) : Who was it in Chat, that wanted the Vikings to win (because Lions fans upset them) because Packers could not lose the 6th seed?
beast (30-Dec) : If Falcons win, Packers stay as the 6th seed and Falcons lead the NFCS, if they lose, Commanders 6th and Bucs take NFCS lead
beast (30-Dec) : Win or Loss, the NFCS is going down to week 18
Mucky Tundra (30-Dec) : if the Falcons win, how does that affect the overall NFC playoff picture? Does it mean that the NFC South comes down to week 18?
beast (30-Dec) : If Commanders win, the Packers drop to the 7th seed
