Just ordered a bouquet for The Mom for her 89th.

This was the week I use one of my more surreal (yet surprisingly effective) stories in class -- a hypothetical story of Wade asking a beautiful and bright woman out on dates that I use to explain why a demand curve looks like it does. Said story involves, among other things, the cost and value of buying flowers.

Anyway, these two things got me thinking. I realize its not a usual guy thing, but I like flowers. I like giving them. I think it would be cool to get them (though I never have). And, if I weren't such a lazy bastard, I'd grow them.

WHich leads me to ask all of you:
1. Do you ever give flowers, and when?
2. Do you like getting them?
3. Should these answers change with gender?
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

giving flowers generally pleases my wife, she likes to set them in vases in the "dining" area (more or less the football room on sundays). flowers do set a nice atmosphere in the room, and also the scent is enjoyable for most, flowers would not be the choice gift for me, but i would not mind having a bouquet or two, for myself-they are also romantic 😉

1. i send flowers to my mom on mother's day - she loves it!
2. i enjoy getting flowers but they don't need to be red roses or something real fancy. some wildflowers picked along a country road are perfect. or some pansies planted in a pot would be great.
3. i'm sure my answers will be vastly different than the males.

After 47 years of marriage both my wife and I have decided that flowers are really a waste of money. Yes, the thought is nice, but after much discussion we both came to the conclusion..........What the Hell can you do with a bunch of flowers?

So.........we decided to give practical gifts on such occasions that the normal person would most likely give flowers. For example, this past Valentines day, instead of a wilted bunch of flowers for my wife, I gave her a new 22 volt Milwaukee Cordless drill. Complete with bit set and carrying case.

For my birthday in April, she gave me a magnificent 4 slice toaster that even has a setting for warming bagels, and can be set for 12 different degrees of toasting the bread. Can't get much better than that.

Aglow in the warmth of love and affection, we promptly exchange gifts, and she has what she wanted all along, and I have my new drill. Like I said, what the hell can you do with flowers?

I give them to my wife from time to time. When our various plants blossom in the yard I pick one of the first ones and bring it to her. We have rose bushes at the office and I bring her a bud. I give one to my secretary from time to time as well. I thought about getting a bouquet for the two women that just moved in next door as a welcome to the neighborhood thing.
2. I like getting them. My wife and mother have done so many of times. i still have a few dried flowers from one of those occasions in my office.
3. never.

Speaking of giving flowers to mothers-

When my dad passed away a few years ago I started a year long tradition of giving mom yellow roses each month on the 27th which commemorated his death.

My brothers and sister took a month. The older nieces ad nephews as well.

The first month she had tears in her eyes as she told me that she never thought she would get yellow roses again. (The flower that Dad always gave her.) I told her that dad taught us better than that.

Now we just them to her once a year on the anniversary.

It was amazing how many times she was having a difficult day ("Their" song was just on the radio, She was thinking about getting dad and sitting ont he back deck, something had happened that made her sad) and the flowers would show up and pick her her.

We just started the same thing with my mother in law last month.

Brett Favre gave 3 roses to Deanna when they were dating. He made the mistake of leaving the price tag on the roses. True story.

My wife is allergic to flowers, so don't give them to her any more.

1. Shoot. I've been to some funerals and never even thought about bringing flowers. Now that you mention it, for now on, I'll do that. I think it's a respectful act.

2. If I ever get around to doing Stand Up and someone threw a flower on the stage or handed me flowers, I'd be stoked.

3. No. Well, depends. If I were single, I might give a flower on a date but won't expect one. Now performance acts, I think it shouldn't matter. However, it might be weird to give flowers to a bunch of Heavy Metal dudes. When I see Epica in December, I might buy some flowers for Simone. Hey, Wade, you just gave me an idea. I'm doing the meet & greet so I will be meeting her in person.

+1 Wade. Thanks.

Now that just isn't fair. :)

Oh well, I'll be able to say I know someone who gave flowers to Simone. :)

By the way, just read that new Nightwish CD will have a 20 minute song on it that Tuomas calls "insanely complicated/difficult". How does he top Ghost Love Score and Poet&Pendulum both?

Zero2Cool (27-Jul) : There's a toggle for light/dark theme. Super easy.
dfosterf (27-Jul) : The white background beta was hard to read, especially the quotes
dfosterf (27-Jul) : Hopefully the color scheme remains the same

packerfanoutwest (27-Jul) : beer and brats woke? say whom?
beast (27-Jul) : I don't want to get into politics, but how is, beers and brats considered to be "woke"? Food is food...
beast (27-Jul) : That being said, I'm not saying all 100% should be that way, but not surprised if majority are Wisconsin based
beast (27-Jul) : And if everyone has heard of them, then it it probably has less growth potential and less community based

dfosterf (27-Jul) : I swear if I were to discover that one of them has invented a virtue signalling transmitter I will not be surprised, lol
dfosterf (27-Jul) : 39 companies so far that I bet no one has ever heard of.
dfosterf (27-Jul) : -Not saying woke, but should- borderline philanthopist venture capital excercise
dfosterf (27-Jul) : Well for one, they are pouring resources into Title Town Tech. Investing beer, brat, hot dog, ticket money into what is pretty much...
beast (27-Jul) : Wow, 95% drop in investment revenue? Would be interesting to hear the details of why...
dfosterf (25-Jul) : It's my one day deal complaint dept. on shareholder meeting day
dfosterf (25-Jul) : Probably a homer access credential intimidation kinda thing
dfosterf (25-Jul) : Meathead "journalists" skip this, concentrating on operational revenue when convenient. They switch when net revenue is more favorable.
dfosterf (25-Jul) : Resulting in an actual drop of net revenue of 12.5%. She is from Minnesota. Just sayin'
dfosterf (25-Jul) : Any plans to hold Maureen Smith (CFO) accountable for a 95% drop in investment revenue?

dfosterf (25-Jul) : *cafeteria* I have hit my head also, so I sympathize
dfosterf (25-Jul) : Possibly hit his head leaning into the glass protecting the food in the cafateria
dfosterf (25-Jul) : Maybe a low flying drone
dfosterf (25-Jul) : Did Savion Williams run into a goalpost or something?
Mucky Tundra (25-Jul) : also, no bueno when a guy starts getting concussions right off the bat in his career
Zero2Cool (25-Jul) : Concussion is worse. Banks probably vet off day via back booboo claim
Mucky Tundra (25-Jul) : @AndyHermanNFL Jordy Nelson out at camp today. No word if he’s in play for one of the two open roster spots ; )
dfosterf (25-Jul) : Is that better or worse than Banks bad back?
Zero2Cool (25-Jul) : Savion concussion ... not good.
packerfanoutwest (24-Jul) : Aaron Rodgers’s first pass of first team period was picked off
Mucky Tundra (24-Jul) : tbh I didn't hear of his passing
