I think both Clifton and Tausher deals are front loaded a lot in that first year. Were both three year deals as well?

ESPN.com reported Friday evening that Clifton, an unrestricted free agent, agreed to a three-year, $20 million contract that included $7.5 million of guaranteed money. The agreement came on the heels of Clifton completing a scheduled visit to Washington Redskins headquarters Friday, according to the Washington Post.

It's unclear how much interest Washington had, but Clifton's agent, Jimmy Sexton, used it as leverage in negotiations with the Packers. Clifton's goal all along was to return to the team that drafted him in 2000, but knowing this would be his last contract, Sexton tried to get him as much as possible.

The $6.67 million per year average is $1 million more than what Clifton received in a six-year, $34 million deal he signed in 2004. The guaranteed portion this time around nearly meets the $10 million he received in the previous contract.t.

This is why we drafted Bulaga over Dez Bryant. Despite Cliffy being serviceable, considering how much he broke down and was on the shelf last year, we needed a competent backup and at least so far, it seems like we found that.

Obviously the big test will be against Peppers next week if Clifton can't go, but if he's relegated to backup status this year, Clifton is the kind of veteran and solid locker room presence you like having come off the bench.

Hopefully we can give him time to heal so we can still have depth behind Bulaga. I don't want to lose that vetran presence especially with a rookie starter.

This! I'm worried about the temper tantrum that seems to be building if you read between the lines, and he did get lit up v. philly, but considering the knee may have contributed to that, the team still has a very competent back-up in cliffy at the very least.

Rest assured, Clifton will play an important role in a victory yet this season.. but I have no problem with playing Bulaga at all.

Just at some point again this season, Clifton will be counted on and he will deliver as he has numerous times in his career.

Rest him and let him get healthy.. because we are going to need him.

This could be as good a situation as we could hope for. Everyone knew of Cliffy's health conerns. If Bulaga is good enough to be counted on, learn and get better-great. Cliffy is there if Bulaga falters or get dinged, he can heal, not have the stress of playing every week and can also continue to teach Bulaga.

I want Clfton back because Colledge is still the weak link and needs to be pushed and only seems to play decent when he's looking at getting benched.

I say run with Bulaga and let Clifton just heal up as much as he can so he can actually be effective if Bulaga struggles. As it is now Clifton just doesn't look like he can hold up as the starter and if he gets seriously hurt AND Bulaga struggles we are in a very bad situation.

True enough. Give the #1 pick the green light, and let Cliffy "heal". If Bulaga can't handle the mustard, then we have a good backup coming off the bench. And as much as he's been owned this season already, and you can't deny that he indeed has, NO false starts!!!! Kudos Chad!

Touche! Cliffy and 1 FS/game go together like bees and honey. We'll see how the team does v the bears since obviously they exposed the line for who they were last year....but with Bulaga/Clifton and Lang as 'backups' I feel pretty good about the OL
