If we had asked Aaron Rodgers to step back into a back up role, would he have left? I was thinking about the similarities between this situation and our QB situation two years ago. Just a thought.

I think he would have left. He's WAY too talented to sit in a backup roll for more years then he already had.
Like has been said, the lifetime of being an NFL player is short. You can't sit till you are in your 30's as a backup, and make alot of money and win alot of games.
I wouldn't have blamed him if he would have left if that had happened.

...imagining Aaron Rodgers and Grace Jones together....er, nevermind.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

He was under contract for 2 more years so i think he'd have to stay. Assuming they gave him a nice contract, i think he'd stay considering he would be unproven to this point had he not been playing. Pretty sure nobody else would be throwing 60 million his way as a career backup. This, assuming Favre retired after this season from the Packers. Also, with the collective bargaining issues, wouldnt Rodgers have been one of their restricted FA victims who teams would have to beat GB's offer and give up a couple draft picks?

Interesting concept, the CBA. I haven't thought about that part.

Rodgers signed a 5 year deal in 2005.
1 2005
2 2006
3 2007
4 2008
5 2009

If he stayed on his rookie deal, he'd be a restricted Free Agent for us, right?

If the previous QB had stayed, I know Rodgers would have stayed for 2008, but I'm not sure about 2009. I say that I "know" because Rodgers said before his predecessor retired that he would and also stated the same thing after the first retirement. I'm not sure about 2009 though. I could have understood if he wanted out and silently asked for a trade, which would not have been granted in my opinion.

I don't watch any late night TV at all - but the whole Leno/Conan thing had me riveted and I didn't know why until I really thought about it. It was such a parallel to the situation we had here 2 years ago - NBC just made the opposite decision.

I think 90% of people have seen, appreciated, and have been impressed with what Aaron can do as a starter in the NFL.

What I admire most about him, is that he was doing this in practice while Brett was playing. Aaron was also working hard, obviously impressing the coaches. His only hope for all that effort? To earn a few snaps he never got while Brett was here.

His focus and commitment in the off seasons as a back up with no shot at playing time. The help he gave Brett when Brett did not show for QB School. Just amazing.

With that stated. I think he would have asked for a trade before this year, if Brett was still here.

And... I would not have blamed him.

To be honest there would have been nothing Rodgers could have done. He was under contract and with the CBA this year he still really wouldn't be able to go anywhere. He got paid alot of money for carrying a clipboard for those few years so how could he complain.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

Good Point.

I learned something.

I never knew that he was paid big bucks to carry a clip board.

I never knew that he carried a clip board at every practice for three years.. I had no idea that his assignment in the meeting rooms was to carry a clip board. I never had a fricken concept his job in the weight room was to carry the clip board?

Fuck... I am enlightened. If I knew he was not watching film, and just holding the clipboard in the back of the film room I would have been pissed at the money big money he was getting paid.

I thought he was getting paid to bust his ass in the off season to get better, to work harder than most digesting the system because he was a quarterback in the system.

I am very disappointed in Aaron.

If I knew he was just carrying a clip board for all that money I would have wanted his ass out of town three years ago.

Now I hate the guy.
