WARNING: If you have some sort of irrational hate on for Favre and his accomplishments, please ignore this thread.

But for those interested, if Favre gets 228 yards and 2 Tds against the Saints he will tie Joe Montana all time for post-season yards and TDs. Pretty amazing stuff.

Also this will be Favre's 24th post season game, Montana played in 23. So Montana will have done it a bit faster (if Favre does it), but still quite the accomplishment.

Also, this is why I will always love the guy:

But I will be rooting for the Saints because I can't stand Vikings fans if they win the SB. Thats was always the thing we had on them. No matter what they said, we could pull the old Patrick Roy ("I can't hear you with my SB rings in my ear").

It would destroy that whole trashtalk avenue, which would hurt. Think about how horrible that would be? It was so good "well whatever Packers fans, you never had players like Moss and Carter and went 15-1". "Well Vikings fan, you never won the Super Bowl, how's that feel?". End of conversation.

Plus, I like Drew Brees and that city deserves something good like this, Go Saints but not before Favre throws 3 Tds and 230 yards.

It sure is quite an accomplishment. Anyone who even gets close to Post Season Monster Montana's numbers has done something special.

Agreed.

The only way to surpass this record is to be on winning teams as the trick to postseason records is to be in as many postseason games as possible. Montana and Favre both played in a lot. If I'm not mistaken, if anyone has a shot at breaking the record after Favre breaks it, it's Tom Brady. I'd have to look up the stats, but I'm pretty sure.

Impressive numbers. I still say Montana is the best clutch QB of all time.

16-7 post season record.

45 tds, 21 ints

But what is most impressive are his SB stats:
-1142 yards (1st all time)
-11 td passes (1st)
-NO interceptions
-4 SB wins

Money.

Agreed, there is no argument to be made that Montana isn't THE SB/Playoffs QB. He was as cold as ice, though I still think the ultimate key is to be on a really good team. Do I think Brady is "that" much better than Manning or that Bradshaw is "that" good, not really. Or that Rothlislsigilburger is that much better than Rivers or Brees, not really. That Pittsburg D was unreal. Ultimate example, Trent Dilfer has a SB ring and Marino, Boomer, Jim Kelly, etc. do not.

Even if you look at Manning's 1 SB, it was really the D that won that post season for them. He didn't have that great of a SB run but they won and then you can have a game like Rodgers had this past game and still not get to the 2nd round.

I really believe that football is the ultimate "team" game. Thats why I think the 'best' players don't always win the SB (for example, BERRY FREAKIN SANDERS). That is an actual travesty to me, Sanders, if I had a time machine I would go back and make it so he won one. He had a great career but man what he could have done if he had a team.

Well, I'd still rather have Bart Starr than Joe Montana. But that's me. 🙂

That's the reason why Joe Montana is my all time favorite QB. I've always hated the Niners (in a distant, careless way), but I LOVED Montana.

You just summed up my reasoning.

Only problem I have with this is that those 49er teams were LOADED, offensively and defensively. So I will argue that Elway is the greatest clutch quarterback, because he put those early teams on his shoulders like a pack mule and drove them to victory. Montana drove the Porsche. Also, Walsh was a much better coach than Reeves.

dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
