[img_r]http://graphics.jsonline.com/graphics/packer/img/news/oct08/saaron03.jpg[/img_r]Green Bay - Aaron Rodgers' mind-set is to play. Always has been, probably always will be.

On Friday, Rodgers positioned himself to start for the Green Bay Packers Sunday when they play the Atlanta Falcons at Lambeau Field.

Nursing a sprained shoulder, Rodgers went first with the No. 1 offense and took about a dozen snaps in the walk-through portion of practice. Then he walked indoors to throw before trainers and strength coaches as rookie Matt Flynn took the lions share of snaps in 11-on-11 practice.

The Packers listed Rodgers as questionable on their injury report. That means Rodgers has a 50-50 chance of playing, which considering the fact he didnt do anything in team drills all week sounds about right.

Im preparing to go either way, coach Mike McCarthy said. Frankly, you hand in the inactives at 10:30 (a.m. Sunday), and Im sure well make our decision close to then.

McCarthy said the strength in Rodgers right shoulder, damaged as he stretched the arm forward on a third-quarter scramble six days ago against Tampa Bay, was definitely improving.

I think how he feels tomorrow and see how he does Sunday before the game will be strong indicators, he said. Its been positive. Hes making progress.

Its quite possible that Rodgers, who is battling to make his fifth straight start as the successor to all-time iron man Brett Favre, will lobby hard to play.

He has a long history of having managed pain, beginning with his four seasons (2000-03) playing with a torn anterior cruciate knee ligament. He also has said he missed just one day of practice in 03 with a fractured index finger on his passing hand.

The strength is pretty much back, Rodgers said. The pain is potentially tolerable. Well see how it tests on Sunday. Im not going to guess.

Las Vegas Sports Consultants, which supplies odds to more than 90% of sports books in Nevada, finally made the decision Friday night to list the game. John Harper, an oddsmaker for the firm, said Green Bay was made a 4-point favorite.

Harper said he considered Rodgers as doubtful because of all the missed practice time.

Jason Been, one of the firms top two oddsmakers for National Football League games, said in this situation a healthy Rodgers would be worth four more points than Flynn.

Tom Brady is a 10-point difference. Maybe, Been said. Pretend Brett Favre was in that case, I could see seven or eight points in a spot like this. Rodgers is in the four to five-point range right now over Flynn. Thats pretty much an entry with (Brian) Brohm, too.

Its one of those weird games. In the NFL, almost always, no later than Wednesday, theres a number on the game. With Rodgers, the Packers played it close to the vest so we really couldnt act on it because theres that much of a difference.

We couldnt give our clients a number and make them liable. They could get hit on just one-sided action on that game. Were paid by them to give even lines so they get two-way action.

Wearing a knee brace during his final two seasons in high school, Rodgers said he learned how to handle pain and perform with restricted movement. Rodgers indicated that the Packers medical staff probably wouldnt give him the go-ahead if he was limited physically.

On Wednesday, Rodgers broached the idea of taking a pain-killing injection, something he said quarterback Trent Dilfer did to play through 10 shoulder dislocations during a 14-year career.

Its definitely a different situation not practicing all week, Rodgers said. I feel confident in the game plan, my film study and my preparation. I feel like I can execute the scheme. Its all about how I feel on Sunday.

Under coach Mike Smith and his defensive coordinator, Brian VanGorder, the Falcons play some Cover 2, which the Packers saw extensively in Week 2 against Detroit and then against Tampa Bay. They also play with cornerbacks in bump-and-run coverage in the quarters coverage scheme often used by Green Bay.

The Falcons clearly arent as difficult to prepare for as the Buccaneers were.

Theres real differences there in the complexities theyre going to show you before the snap, guard Daryn Colledge said. Its just probably a little easier mentally. But they make up for it in their ability to play football.

Atlanta has been relying on a four-man rush for its seven sacks, including six by defensive end John Abraham.

I dont think theyre a real blitz-heavy team but you never know, Flynn said. They could blitz a lot more this week than they have.

Flynn took seven fourth-quarter snaps in Tampa, threw two poor passes and failed to generate a first down.

I wasnt tentative, he said. It was just the first time in there. That was a tough situation to be in.

If he does start for the first time, Flynn said, Im going to have to be sharp and play the best game Ive ever played.

If Aaron goes, thats great for this team. But if he doesnt and I get an opportunity to go, Im going to do my best to not let there be a dropoff.

Good article here boys and gals.

I believe earlier in the week Rodgers said he could deal with the pain, it was the strength in his arm that was his concern. Now you hear him say this.

The strength is pretty much back, Rodgers said. The pain is potentially tolerable. Well see how it tests on Sunday. Im not going to guess.

I'm telling you, he will start, he will throw for two TD's and we will win.

this is where it's helpful he's been around for 3 years. I believe the lack of practice won't effect him too much

Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking too. There's not a whole lot that he's going to learn from practice that he hasn't already done. Like Coach says, all he needs is game time.

What question did Rodgers not answer directly? Do you expect him to be able to predict the future?

Well 2 points here
1st he has to play or the haters will be out in full force and Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy will be chased with pitch forks and torches.
2nd i disagree i think he needs al the practice he can get or was i watching a different game the last 2 weeks then everyone else?

I hope he plays ( after all Big Ben has been playing with a separated shoulder since week 1 which i just found out this week)
Im wondering how much is being blown into a big thing to try and make Rodgers not look like a china doll. And i still dont believe he played for 4 years with a torn acl the coaches would have pulled him but hey it sounds good.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

Zero2Cool (1h) : We'd have same Division and Conference records. Strength of schedule we edge them
Zero2Cool (1h) : I just checked. What tie breaker?
bboystyle (1h) : yes its possible but unlikely. If we do get the 5th, we face the NFCS winner
Zero2Cool (1h) : Ahh, ok.
bboystyle (1h) : yes due to tie breaker
Zero2Cool (1h) : I mean, unlikely, yes, but mathematically, 5th is possible by what I'm reading.
Zero2Cool (1h) : If Vikings lose out, Packers win out, Packers get 5th, right?
bboystyle (1h) : Minny isnt going to lose out so 5th seed is out of the equation. We are playing for the 6th or 7th seed which makes no difference
Mucky Tundra (2h) : beast, the ad revenue goes to the broadcast company but they gotta pay to air the game on their channel/network
beast (3h) : If we win tonight the game is still relative in terms of 5th, 6th or 7th seed... win and it's 5th or 6th, lose and it's 6th or 7th
beast (3h) : Mucky, I thought the ad revenue went to the broadcasting companies or the NFL, at least not directly
Zero2Cool (3h) : I think the revenue share is moot, isn't it? That's the CBA an Salary Cap handling that.
bboystyle (3h) : i mean game becomes irrelevant if we win tonight. Just a game where we are trying to play spoilers to Vikings chance at the #1 seed
Mucky Tundra (3h) : beast, I would guess ad revenue from more eyes watching tv
Zero2Cool (4h) : I would think it would hurt the home team because people would have to cancel last minute maybe? i dunno
beast (4h) : I agree that it's BS for fans planning on going to the game. But how does it bring in more money? I'm guessing indirectly?
packerfanoutwest (4h) : bs on flexing the game....they do it for the $$league$$, not the hometown fans
Zero2Cool (5h) : I see what you did there Mucky
Zero2Cool (5h) : dammit. 3:25pm
Zero2Cool (5h) : Packers Vikings flexed to 3:35pm
Mucky Tundra (5h) : Upon receiving the news about Luke Musgrave, I immediately fell to the ground
Mucky Tundra (5h) : Yeah baby!
Zero2Cool (5h) : LUKE MUSGRAVE PLAYING TONIGHT~!~~~~WOWHOAAOHAOAA yah
Zero2Cool (7h) : I wanna kill new QB's ... blitz the crap out of them.
beast (7h) : Barry seemed to get too conservative against new QBs, Hafley doesn't have that issue
Zero2Cool (7h) : However, we seem to struggle vs new QB's
Zero2Cool (7h) : Should be moot point, cuz Packers should win tonight.
packerfanoutwest (8h) : ok I stand corrected
Zero2Cool (8h) : Ok, yes, you are right. I see that now how they get 7th
Zero2Cool (8h) : 5th - Packers win out, Vikings lose out. Maybe?
beast (8h) : Saying no to the 6th lock.
beast (8h) : No, with the Commanders beating the Eagles, Packers could have a good chance of 6th or 7th unless the win out
Zero2Cool (8h) : I think if Packers win, they are locked 6th with chance for 5th.
beast (8h) : But it doesn't matter, as the Packers win surely win one of their remaining games
beast (8h) : This is not complex, just someone doesn't want to believe reality
beast (8h) : We already have told you... if Packers lose all their games (they won't, but if they did), and Buccaneers and Falcons win all theirs
Zero2Cool (8h) : I posted it in that Packers and 1 seed thread
Zero2Cool (8h) : I literally just said it.
packerfanoutwest (8h) : show us a scenario where Pack don't get in? bet you can't
Zero2Cool (8h) : Falcons, Buccaneers would need to win final two games.
Zero2Cool (8h) : Yes, if they win one of three, they are lock. If they lose out, they can be eliminated.
packerfanoutwest (8h) : as I just said,,gtheyh are in no matter what
Zero2Cool (8h) : Packers should get in. I just hope it's not 7th seed. Feels dirty.
packerfanoutwest (8h) : If packers lose out, no matter what, they are in
packerfanoutwest (8h) : both teams can not male the playoffs....falcon hold the tie breaker
packerfanoutwest (8h) : if bucs win out they win their division
beast (8h) : Fine, Buccaneers and Falcons can get ahead of us
packerfanoutwest (9h) : falcons are already ahead of us
beast (9h) : Packers will get in
beast (9h) : If Packers lose the rest of their games and Falcons win the rest of theirs, they could pass us... but not gonna happen
