I don't think he was yanked because McCarthy and company are trying to create the idea that Rodgers can't play through pain as a trick.

Many many scenarios, but the desire not to further injure the shoulder of Rodgers I think was the primary reason he was rested, yanked or what have you.
PS, the NFL already knows Rodgers can play through pain. He played two quarters with a broken foot against the New England Patriots.
