I wonder how much everyone here has seen Revis play this season? I've barely seen him at all, because the Jets aren't on TV much where I live and they're kind of a boring team anyway. That's why I can't say that Woodson is definitely better than Revis. I've seen all of Woodson's games--most of them twice, in fact--but most of what I know about Revis is secondhand.

I don't think the Jets making the playoffs is going to make much of a difference for Revis. I heard plenty of buzz about him even when the Jets looked like they were going to miss the playoffs.

I've seen a handful of his games. Just as the stats suggest, he pretty much shuts down a teams top receiver more often then not.

don't mean to sound like a moron, but anyone know when this is announced?

but though the article says the defensive rookie of the year was to be announced on the 6th, it was actually announced on the 5th. so, i don't know if the rest of the schedule is accurate or not.

I've always thought that the NFL should wait till after the postseason to announce these awards, like baseball does. At this time of the year, there is already enough to talk about with the playoffs happening. And nobody can really enjoy their award. The players who are in the playoffs are focused on that, and the ones who missed out are still feeling disappointed.

agreed Greg, just so long as the voting occurs at the conclusion of the regular season but is not revealed until the end of the playoffs, the Jets (and Revis) nearly missing is why I mention that.

...and with that said, me and my green and gold glasses vote for woody based on the stats, 3 DPOMs, and also that he has played at and excelled well beyond the duties of just a cb.

How many AFC DPOM awards did Revis win this year?

Jets message board thread discussing Revis vs. Woodson:
http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=52602

I think it's a case of two elite corners having great years, although Woodson's role was far more varied and Revis was used primarily as a shutdown corner to allow the rest of the defense to do more. Either way, you have to respect both of them.

I think it's funny that half the Jets fans reduced Woodson's season to "flashy plays and stats". I'd say about half of those "flashy plays and stats" came at KEY moments in games. By "I think it's funny" I mean "it annoys the hell out of me." Now I really hope Woodson wins it.

Jets message board thread discussing Revis vs. Woodson:

This........... Ryan's theory is why blitz Revis, when he is the absolute best cover CB in the league. Ryan emphatically stated that Revis can blitz and play the point of attack (run) better than any CB too. However, it would be a waste of his unique abilities.

Like Abyzmul and Badger said, there is absolutely nothing Woodson could do better. The problem is one is used in a way that gives them more opportunities for stats, while the other is used to shut off half the field..........
