Tom Brady won the award, collecting 19 of the 50 votes. I think either Vince Young(notes) or Cadillac Williams made much better comeback stories, but I get why Brady won it. He missed a year with an injury, he came back and had a successful season, and he's the clean-cut, well-liked big name with whom everyone is familiar. I get it.
Vince Young might not be the quarterback Brady is, but at the same time, he came back from something far more unusual. Guys have season-ending injuries all the time. Not that that makes it easy, but a lot of players fight through that, every season.
Young, while we don't know exactly what he went through, at the very least, had some serious emotional problems. He almost quit football. In terms of his being a successful NFL quarterback ever again, he was left for dead by pretty much everyone. And now, here he is, having gone 8-2 as a starter this year, and once again seen as the future of the Tennessee Titans.
Cadillac, meanwhile, tore his patellar tendon in his right knee in 2007, tore the patellar tendon in his left knee in 2008, was rumored to be on the brink of retirement, and here he is, having gained gained more than 1,000 yards from scrimmage in 2009.
Brady got 19 votes, Williams got 14, Young got 7, Cedric Benson(notes) got 4, and Brett Favre got 4.
