Not one to be the bearer of the obvious, but he's implying that winning a championship doesn't rely as much on having a great defense as it does a great offense. Back in the 70's it was great defenses that won you the championship. He's saying now that has changed where you have to essentially win a shootout to win the game.

Yup. Dilfer is one of the smartest analysts out there, so it's safe to say that he didn't mean that literally. I looked up the quote and couldn't find it anyway, although I did find another version of what he said: "I think whoever wins the Super Bowl this year will have to outscore their opponent." It's pretty damn obvious what he's getting at there.

I don't normally watch that crew but did after the Bears game Monday night for recap and actually enjoyed his contributions over some of the other tools I see week in and week out.
