I KNOW it has to be bugging you guys (and gals) as much as it is me. This giving up HUGE kickoff returns after we score is getting rediculous.
Do any of you think we should just start kicking the ball out of bounds and giving it to them at their 40? I don't understand WHY our special teams is so consistantly bad in that area.
And our field goals this year.......is it the holder? Crosby was pretty dependable before this season.
I don't want one of these miscues to cost us a game at this point in the season.
Lucky for us, our D has stepped it up BIG time.

Every time the ST steps on the field it scares me. I don't know how they go about fixing it but it has been a problem for a while now.

The roster was built with STs in mind yet they're awful.

Just imagine if Ted Thompson had cut some our better special team players - I dread to think.

The 3-4 switch should have helped and got us more linebacker body types out there but something's not right.

Slocum's job is on the line right now.

British has it right -

you know how many times special teams was mentioned this preseason (including the draft) ... geez I swear we were picking draft picks solely on ST.

and yet like british said - our ST BLOWS.

Something needs to be done and IMO whomever is running our ST unit needs to find different work.

This is the gamble you take when you promote an assistent. Especially when you promote an assistent of an already struggling coach.

Either we're evaluating our talent completely wrong on ST, or Slocum is not getting the job done. Seeing that we have signed about 20 guys who should be good on special teams, I'm going with Slocum for now.

It's a special teams coach. Just get some proven guy in. Maybe a fired DC or something who has to take a step back.

Missed kick

Holder Matt Flynn took the blame for place-kicker Mason Crosbys 38-yard field goal miss early in the fourth quarter.

The kick drifted wide right, but replays showed the hold wasnt clean.

I bobbled it a little bit, Flynn said. That one's probably on me.

It was pretty clear that Flynn had a bad hold. So i don't blame Crosby for that one. But, it's still a ST miscue.

How is firing a coach who's unit is clearly underperforming using a scape goat? Last year when Vanilla Bob was fired, I was elated. When slocum is let go, I'll feel the same way.

Would we have lost to TB or the second Viking game if we could adequately cover a punt or kickoff?

Sorry Ironman, but I don't follow your logic on this particular post.
