A day after signing free-agent cornerback Jason Bell, the Packers promoted cornerback Trevor Ford to the 53-man roster from their practice squad.

The Packers didnt announce the move but Fords agent, Ray Ivey, said he received the paperwork after practice on Tuesday. The Packers will have to create a spot for Ford by placing either cornerback Al Harris or linebacker Aaron Kampman, both of whom sustained season-ending knee injuries on Sunday, on injured reserve.

When they put both on IR, theyll still have one open roster spot. They carried only 52 into the 49ers game but if theyre going to add someone, itll likely be practice-squad linebacker Cyril Obiozor. The team discussed the possibility with Obiozors agent on Monday.

It would be the logical thing to do, but I guess they felt they needed help at defensive back, Obiozor said. We did have an extra linebacker on the roster who wasnt getting a lot of time anyway. Naturally, Im biased, but Im ready to play. You ask any of the coaches, I can play. But its always been about the numbers even at the original cut. Like a lot of players in this league, I think Im just waiting my turn.

Obiozor makes the most sense of at least the bodies on the current roster. They might wait until after the Lions game to make a move though since they have 4 guys still on the depth chart at OLB.

Ford looked totally raw to me this preseason... he had the tools but didn't know how to use them... to me those type of guys it always depends how good are they at learning and how good are their teachers. Usually when their that raw it's because their not every good learners... but their a chance he could become a very good player.

Of the guys on the practice squad OLB Cyril Obiozor or DL Anthony Toribio would make the most sense to me... then again I would think their would be better... then again I thought that about Ford too so they might bring one of them up.

Ford is nice, but I'm going to asume that this is nothing more than a ST pick-up at this point.

Obiozor has some potential, as well, but again, these aren't guys who are going to contribute immediatly.

In all honesty, I don't even see a reason for Obiozor to be signed to our regular roster, or we have to be really down on Jeremy Thompson. I mean, we still have 4 OLBs. That should easily last us for quite a while. Especially since Chillar can play outside, as well.

Maybe it's just a security matter. Or hoping that he'll be one of those guys who looks average in practice but turns it up at game time. Like Quinn. Or at least, like Quinn at the start of the year. Lost in practice, but making some great blocks.

Yep, Ford was a total doormat in the preseason, and that was against second and third stringers. I did not even see any signs of raw talent, which I thought I saw in Underwood. Hopefully Ford will not even see the field this week (which in this case happens to be Ford Field).

dfosterf (11m) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (1h) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (1h) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (1h) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (1h) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (1h) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (1h) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (1h) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (1h) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (1h) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (2h) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (2h) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (2h) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (2h) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (3h) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (3h) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (3h) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (19h) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : two 1sts in 2022 and two 2nd's in 2023 and 2024

Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Visiting Angels has a pretty good reputation
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : what
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : WINNING IT, not someone else losing it. The best victory though was re-uniting with his wife
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : The manner in which he won it was just amazing and wonderful. First blowing the lead then getting back, then blowing it. But ultimately

Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : I don't recall that he did which is why I asked.
Zero2Cool (10-Apr) : Guessing they probably knew. Did he have cast or something on?
