One of my avatars was the unit patch for the USS Green Bay, LPD-20.
In a thread, I told everyone about the ship. It's part of what is referred to as the Gator Navy (Read Marine Amphibious Assault).
For some pretty obvious reasons, that would be near and dear to my heart.
It is the only US Navy ship to have ever adopted the principles of an NFL football team..it is actually in their mission statement.
You can't get a "real" hat from anywhere but onboard that ship. (At least that's how it usually works, I have traded/bartered/bought many ship's items over the years) Oh, you can get an LPD 20 hat, but it's fakier than our jerseys :thumbleft:
The "real" one has a "G" on the side. That's right. A Green Bay Packers "G"
Go Navy!
Ship's Insignia
Check out the side of her hat
That's the XO of the ship
Squids letting girls play with guns
The one standing in the background ain't bad, imo (Oops, I digress)
I am going to e-mail the CO and try to get my hands on at least one of those hats. If anyone is interested, let me know. I will wait a day or two to see if others are interested. My guess is that it would set you back about 20 bucks, but it really is unique in packerhat land, imo
Edit:
This better be easy. I just read the Ship's Captain's bio. Not only is he going to come off some hats, I'm going to insist he joins this website. :thumbleft:
Commander Olson is from Madison, Wisconsin. (So am I) We have served aboard some of the exact same ships. How friggin' cool is it that the Navy selected a "homie" as the the first CO of that ship? I wonder if he might be a Packer fan, and that begins to explain how this ship got so very "Packer-centric" I TOLD you guys and gals that Packer fans are like cockroaches...we are EVERYWHERE (or was that jarheads, I forget, lol)
Something else just struck me. When I go to a Packers game at Lambeau, I fly into Madison. The reason I do that is because I enjoy the drive. One of the the things I really enjoy about that drive is to see what you crazy bastards have done to your cars in order to display your support of the Packers. I have seen giant decals on the sides and hoods of brand new Escalades, for example. Commander Olson is kicking everyone's ass in that department. This lucky bastard has finagled his way into emblazoning an entire friggin' US Navy ship with Packers regalia. That is pretty friggin' impressive, lol lol lol
Associated Press- Pentagon.
Colonel Schmuckatelli, spokesperson for the Department of Defense, had no comment on the reports emanating from Minneapolis that a Marine/Navy air/ground team launched an apparently unauthorized amphibious assault on the Metrodome Sunday. In a statement released from somewhere in Lake Michigan, an apparent rogue Captain of the United States Navy has stated that he will release Brett Favre "after the season is over." Casualties include Jared Allen, the William's wall, and several wide receivers of the Minnesota Vikings football team." Details of the attack were sketchy, but it would appear that no other persons were harmed in the unprecedented misutilization of DOD assets."
