Okay, I've been screwing around with Movie Maker for quite a while now. I've been busy for about 4 hours capturing and editing this 9 minute movie. After changing some .ax files, changing something with the hardware accelerator and what not, I now can't save the movie.

I just try to save it as the recommended extension and quality. Then I tried at high quality and what not. It opens up about 20 Haali Media Splitter icons in the bottom right bar next to the clock. Then, after about 5 seconds, it gives some message that the source files and saving locations still have to be available.

They clearly are.

Anyone know a way out of this one?

I'm not an IT person. I just don't have IT. At least, that's what most people tell me.

I'd try to update your Divx codec.

I've been screwing around with codecs for hours now. I downloaded two seperate codec packages, went to tons of troubleshooting pages and what not, but it just doesn't work.

Being the clueless idiot that I am, I have no idea how to get my home PC on the same network as my laptop, as I can't work with Vista.

I'll just go to bed or something now. Movie Maker is pissing me off a bit.

Did you update your DIVX?

What do you mean you can't get the PC onto your network? What is the specific problem? Is your wireless not finding the network?

No, it's a whole lot simpler. I'm sure I'll find it when I screw around with it a little. It's just that I'm not used to Vista. All I have to do is get it into the local network in my house. The one where you can see what you and other people on your network are sharing. I'll find it out soon enough, it's just a little frustration on top of this annoying MM thing.

I did update my Divx at first. Then it recommended deleting it when installing some other codec pack. Which also got deleted when I tried to next codec pack (K-Lite or something) which didn't smoothen the vids I play in my WMP, but still doesn't allow me to save anything.

The movies are all AVI's. Maybe if I change that into Mpeg4 or WMV, they'll work better with WMM. Although I'll have to find a program for that.

Of course, I could've saved myself a lot of time by transferring everything over to my laptop right away. Asuming it does work on there. I just hate it when something doesn't work, though.

Ooh, so you need to add your Vista machine to your network?

Go to Control Panel > Network and Sharing

Read the options and you should figure out how to enable the network sharing pretty easily.

Vista public networking is kind of nice in a way. You have a directory called "Public" that has several subdirectories such as videos documents etc ...

You'll want to use your 192.168.1.101 format IP address when you network a path to it from your other machine.

My experience with WMM on my Vista laptop is the one DVD I burned locks up at a certain point of the movie on most DVD players, if not all.

I know that's not your problem, but I have a little bit of a scorned attitude towards WMM.
