The Colts' D is #1 in the NFL right now in the only stat that matters - Points Allowed. So it's not just their O that is winning games for them.

As of 11/16, I think they're a better team than the Vikings or the Saints.

Wow. Interesting. Didn't know that. Ty.

It's just that they don't have an amazing bunch of players out there. I guess that "the whole is more than the sum of its parts" is true here. Very impressive. Especially with Bob Sanders being out more than not.

The Colts are doing this with several players out in their secondary. They can't run the ball half the time. They clearly have problems stopping the run, and they haven't looked like a dominant, championship team. But as long as Manning is running that offense, they have a chance to win every game. And he's not winning with any of this Brady-style drive my team 40 yards so the kicker can win it crap. He's winning with TDs in the closing moments. I don't know how you can't consider him the MVP because the Colts are dead without him.

Because the Saints would be dead without Brees and they too are undefeated.

The Colts have the NFL's #1 D.

Really hard call right now between Manning and Brees. Right now, I'd give Manning a slight edge but we still have half a season left.

Brees has been great, but their defense has been a big part of their success this year, too. They're top 5 in takeaways. I haven't seen as much ballhawking by the Colts this year which is why I give Manning the edge. But I wouldn't be opposed to co-MVPs at this point.

Let me get something out of the way - I hate the Mannings. I hate Peyton, Eli, their Dad, their Mom, their cars, their houses, their CD collection, their lawns, and even their dogs.

But after watching last night's game, I'd have to put Manning above my favorite player ever for MVP. I hate saying that.

So right now it's Manning, Brees, Favre for MVP. We'll see how the rest of the season plays out, but that's how it is as of 11/16/2009.

I don't think I hate dad, but I would have to refresh my memory for a final ruling on that one.

I want to add to the hatred, but ironically, state at the same time why I have reduced my level of hatred, ever so slightly.

I hate Bill Belicheat. The irony is (and it is VERY ironic, also rare in the sense that 'ol dfoster is giving credit where it probably is not even due)
I hate him less after he made that "boneheaed" decision.

1. I think he was giving props to Manning.
2. He knows the percentages. No one goes into a game with more awareness of those than him, imo.
3. I bet he knew both the historical percentages of his team this year, and overall against the Colts.
4. In hindsight, the percentages were not in his favor, at least for this year.
5. I am impressed (for once, and probably only this once) with his taciturn attitude about the whole damn thing. His even-keeled-ness, so to speak.
6. I like it even more because some of his own players have raised some hell about it. Bellicheat does not fuck around. He has moved on to the next game, period. Again, please remember I hate this SOB.
7. His arrogance is duly noted, but so are his stones, in this particular instance.

This is germane to this thread, imo, because I think he (WISELY) recognized that his defense was not going to stop Manning, punt or no punt. Many will want to take the position that he had no faith in his D... Of course it can be looked at like that, I'm sure that is the perspective of most.

But like I said, this guy is all about the percentages, and as incredibly stupid that decision looks at face value, factoring in everything that had transpired prior, he played those percentages.

His non-apology apology is about right for the circumstances, as well.

Take due note of this compliment, because I strongly suspect that it will be the last one issued by yours truly in my lifetime. I say Manning made him do it. (and the compliment part applies to both of 'em)

I hate Belicheat too and that SB where the Giants beat him was one of my favorite SBs I've ever watched, gambling money aside (yes, I won and I refused to take the points too).

That said, I back Belicheat on that move. Manning was on fire and would have scored from their own 20. Belicheat simply wanted to run the clock out. If you left Manning zero seconds, he couldn't have scored. That would have made more sense than giving Manning 2 minutes to get 80 yards.

Yes on everything you said.

The best, 100% way to beat Manning.. Keep him on the sidelines. Or on his keister.

The Vikings last year did that pretty good until late in the game. Before the game was over, the Vikings kicked like 5 FGs or something stupid like that.
