The results of Sundays games puts the Packers into the 2nd Wildcard position should the playoffs happen next week.

Had they won against the Bucanneers they would be the top Wild Card team.

If the Giants did not have a head to head win over the Eagles as a tiebreaker, the Packers would be in 7th position just missing the playoffs.

9 teams in the NFC are within 1 game of the Packers (6-3 to 4-5). Tiebreakers are very important. 4-5 49'ers are next and they must keep winning.

I'm playoff seeding stupid, but aren't the Packers 7th in the conference already?

Still a lot of games to be played but we've gotten some good help with other teams (Eagles, Falcons) losing this week. Besides the division leaders every team is 5-4.

But the Giants have a better Conf record than we do? Or do the Giants get knocked down because of the multi team tie that means the division tie breaker applies to the Giants/Eagles?

Edit, I think doing my taxes is easier.

TO BREAK A TIE FOR THE WILD-CARD TEAM

If it is necessary to break ties to determine the two Wild-Card clubs from each conference, the following steps will be taken.
[ul] 1. If the tied clubs are from the same division, apply division tie breaker.
2. If the tied clubs are from different divisions, apply the following steps.
[/ul]

Two Clubs
[ul] 1. Head-to-head, if applicable.
2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four.
4. Strength of victory.
5. Strength of schedule.
6. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
7. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
8. Best net points in conference games.
9. Best net points in all games.
10. Best net touchdowns in all games.
11. Coin toss.[/ul]

Three or More Clubs
(Note: If two clubs remain tied after third or other clubs are eliminated, tie breaker reverts to step 1 of applicable two-club format.)
[ul] 1.(a) Apply division tie breaker to eliminate all but the highest ranked club in each division prior to proceeding to step
1.(b) The original seeding within a division upon application of the division tie breaker remains the same for all subsequent applications of the procedure that are necessary to identify the two Wild-Card participants.
2. Head-to-head sweep. (Applicable only if one club has defeated each of the others or if one club has lost to each of the others.)
3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
4. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four.
5. Strength of victory.
6. Strength of schedule.
7. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
8. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
9. Best net points in conference games.
10. Best net points in all games.
11. Best net touchdowns in all games.
12. Coin toss[/ul]

When the first Wild-Card team has been identified, the procedure is repeated to name the second Wild-Card, i.e., eliminate all but the highest-ranked club in each division prior to proceeding to step 2. In situations where three or more teams from the same division are involved in the procedure, the original seeding of the teams remains the same for subsequent applications of the tie breaker if the top-ranked team in that division qualifies for a Wild-Card berth.

There is some legalize to read in the proceedures:

When the teams are tied within the division, divisional tiebreakers take over. That comes before you look at the Conference Tiebreakers.

Head to head is a tiebreaker before common games and conference record. Therefore the Giants are ahead of the Eagles. Even though the Eagles have a better conference record.

(Read your 1a. of three or more teams tied)

The Giants ahead of the Eagles, but are behind the Falcons and Packers.

The Eagles cannot be in the playoffs ahead of the Giants.

That is why I said above if it were not for that head to head win, the Packers would be in 7th position.

Start looking at the common games between the Packers and the Falcons becoming a factor.

The common games will be:
Dallas (Falcons lost Packers won)
Tampa Bay (Packers lost Falcons have 2 to play)
San Francisco (Falcons won, Packers wtill have to play)
Chicago (Falcons and Packers won, Packers have one remaining)

That Tampa Bay loss counts as much as the Falcons loss to the Cowboys.

I SO hope we get to play at the Metrodump in the playoffs. No way they beat us three times in one year.
THAT would go a long way toward redemption for MM.
