It's time to kiss the playoffs good-bye. This is not a playoff caliber football team. This is a below average team. To be fair, Green Bay is a more talented team than Tampa Bay, but the Buccaneers gave forth the effort NFL teams do and out coached the Packers from start to finish.
Aaron Rodgers needs to be held accountable for his awful performance today. He made three good plays. He's doing the same crap over and over. He held the ball way too long in this game. This was by far his worse performance in holding onto the ball. Get rid of it. There is no such thing as one, two, and three and throw or anything, but he's taking five seconds now. He's not doing what he should be. His two picks prior to the third one were terrible throws and terrible decisions. Does he ever check down?
This isn't to say he's bad player, but he was bad today. I think Rodgers is apart of the solution, but the fact remains, something is wrong now. There is no way one player can be that stubborn. I think it's time for the coaches to work with him. Are they?
Credit the offensive line for a better game than the numbers will show. They ran for 150 yards I think. It's a shame that they didn't keep sticking too it though.
Mike McCarthy is ridiculous. His gameplan was awful. Way to many deep passes. He called a 1st down play action deep ball two times on one drive. It didn't work the first time, it's not going to work the second time either. What a complete joke. He coached a terrible game. He looks like he's in over his head.
What is the deal with all these runs out of the shotgun formation? This isn't college football. It's time to line up and play and when they did that, they were successful. I'm okay with three shotgun draws a game maybe, but they ran like six or seven.
Defensively, Green Bay made no adjustments to Josh Freeman. Freeman ran around and avoided several sacks because of his legs and GB didn't contain on the outside. They let him out of the pocket and he made some nice throws. That's on Dom Capers and the defensive coaching staff. A terrible gameplan. You don't go after Freeman like he's Kerry Collins. Would you gameplan that way for Donovan McNabb? The Packers didn't gameplan to stop a mobile QB. They thought he'd be too scared to make anything happen. They were wrong.
Special teams is terrible. Not shocked there, but the effort is ridiculous. They have players out there that don't want to play special teams. The effort by Tramon Williams on the kick return was awful. He's trying to contain and I get that, but the pursuit was just awful.
Poor coaching, lack of effort, and laziness. This was the worse loss the Packers have suffered in several years. You thought last week was bad? At least Minnesota is a Super Bowl contender. GB loss to a team that will pick in the top five of the 2010 draft.
If this team finishes below 500, and I think they might, there is no way you can keep McCarthy with the likes of Mike Holmgren, Mike Shanahan, Jon Gruden, and Mooch out there. Gruden would love to coach Green Bay IMO.
