I saw the argument that the Yankees build their own "home grown" players. Not that much on free agency. That may be so. But, if a team like the Brewers "builds" a player, and that player becomes great, the Brewers can't afford to pay whatever the guy wants. So any REAL good players the Brewers have, they can't keep. Where the Yankees can afford to pay whatever ANY player wants.
It's not fair at all. As long as there is no salary cap, teams like the Yankees can just keep buying championships.
Years ago, Paul Molitor left because he could go where he wanted and get the big bucks. Robin Yount stayed with the Brewers, even though he could have gone somewhere else for alot more money. Yount stayed here out of loyalty to the Brewer organization.
