They where all late round guys. Next to that, Detmer was drafted in 92. Warner wasn't even drafted.

Also, he was way younger at that point.

I can see how he saw it as drafting his replacement. I don't know why he thought we wanted him out of the door directly. I think it figures that when your QB has an entire retirement saga every single year, you want to find someone who can step in.

I'm pretty sure Favre had thought he was going to be benched in favor of Mark Brunnel at one point. He's always kind of had that worry, probably because, he got the job because his predecessor got hurt.

Clearly, based on some of the responses, their is a little of disappointment maybe with the current front office of the Packers' organization. I'm guessing that her feelings are probably pretty close to that of people who are close to her. If I were in her shoes, I'd think the same way.

I hope the truth does come out one day. The Packers (Ted Thompson) easily disrespected Favre when he wanted to return, but they did have the right to move on and I hope that most people can understand that it's apart of the game. Whether they're right or wrong, people make the right and wrong decisions all the time. It looks like the move to Rodgers is a good move, but then again, GB fans will never know what they would've done with Favre in 08 or even this season.

The thing that stands out the most is the hate messages she got on twitter and all that as mentioned. Some people just need to get a life and I love football as much as anything, so coming from me, that's saying something.

How did you feel seeing your fathers press conference when he retired from the Green Bay Packers. Did you think it was going to be that hard for him to do? I knew it was going to be hard because what a lot of people didnt realize at the time was that there was a lot of pressure for him to do so. People deny it, but drafting a quarterback isnt exactly welcoming for a veteran.

I understand why she took this side of the issue, but who can fault the Packers at all here? Favre had been contemplating retirement since 2003. It was purely a business decision because of Favre's indecisiveness.

Family defends family, but rational people had to see it was the right decision.

Thats just lame. Talk about "biased".

Yeah.. When you guys look at it from a business standpoint and view people as tools, you guys are absolutely correct.

Problem is, NFL players are people. Humans. And, I know it's REALLY shocking, but they have emotions.

It's the equivalent of a guy that pours his blood, sweat and tears into a corporation, reaches the CEO type ranks, and then gets dumped for a less expensive young guy. Forgotten all the late nights, missed time away from family, countless of un-cashed in sick hours, etc.. None of it mattered. You better believe that former CEO and his family are going to be 'biased'. They were black-balled and crapped on.

EDIT: The above isn't my stance.. it's the opposite of Cheesey's and MassPackFan's view. I post it to bring both sides of the story to the table. Claiming the above as my view will garner you nothing but ignorance now that I added this disclaimer. You've been warned. =)

"MassPackersFan" wrote:

It's more like them hiring another young management type who could eventually rise up the ranks. No dumping involved. Actually the comparison gets even worse if you factor in the retirements, talk of retirement preceding that, etc... How DARE they! And how DARE you compare a game to a business.

I hate to say this... but I miss the good old days of Vikings fans despising Favre and everything about him. I feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone with a Vikings fan playing Devil's Advocate in order to make us think outside the box regarding Favre's behavior.

"wils0646" wrote:

Hey, I didn't compare the game to a business... You and Cheesey brought up that viewpoint. I just made the correlation. And the dumping WAS involved after the nondiscript pressure of the retirement.

My whole point of playing the Devil's Advocate is to force you guys to realize that it isn't JUST a business, just as it's not JUST a game. It's a combination of the two. People need to stop being surprised at the fact that NFL players show emotion, and have emotional responses to certain affairs that occur in their careers. That's all.

Emotional responses are one thing. For a while. Even for a year. But at some point it stops being a natural emotional response and turns into a skewed perception/description of history that does nobody any good.

That why I believe a coach has to be able to handle not only play-calling and football oriented material but really know how to handle personalities and mesh them into a good football team. Chemistry, motivation and faith are really the core of a good football team--strategy and practice comes secondary.

In all honesty taking away Favre from football in general--I love the guy, who can't? He's a great sports personality and so respectable to the average American that that's why so many people can actually get emotionally affected by every decision he makes. Who can't love him?

I think the reason most people hate Favre is not because of him himself but because he's such a big deal to football it makes him a huge deal to the media. And as we all know the media can destroy any popular figure. I just wish Favre could learn to keep his mouth shut because no matter what he says it will be twisted in a way where it pisses someone off--not because they hate him but because you respect him.

Yea sure he plays for the Vikings, but everyone knew that that really was the only decision he could have made to actually warrant playing again right? You can hate him all you want, and I'll root against him as long as he negatively effects my Pack, but you can't really hate him can you?
